Hello, I am Karen. I have a dear friend who recommended this site to me so I am going to give it a shot. I am desperate to get in better shape for health reasons. I need to lose 100 pounds so that the surgeons will consider giving me a bilateral hip replacement. I think I can handle changing my diet, or rather eating habits, but the exercise is a real killer. Since I am confined to a wheel chair there is not a lot I can do. Especially since I have no cartillage left in my hip joints. I am trying to lift 3 lb weights in various exercises while I sit up straight as I can, but I can't figure out what to call what I do so that I can journal it. I tire rather quickly but I am hoping that will change as I get more disciplined. Anybody else out there with similar problems who can share solutions with me??

Do an internet search for "sitting exercises" and see what you can find. I work with children with disabilities, and have a father in a wheelchair. I know that he works out at the gym lifting weights and wheeling around the track. Swimming is also a low-impact work out that you can focus on using your arms. I am sure there is information out there! Good luck, and remember, just changing what and how you eat is half the battle. Those changes alone should bring some of the weight off. Do what you can physically little bits at a time.
