Vitamins?

OK! I've been at this "change of life" diet thing for two weeks. I am noticing I am low in potassium and calcium. I do not take any vitamins. The totally fit people at my work take a bunch of horse pills every day at lunch.
Here are the questions:
Do you take vitamins? Why or why not?
If you do, do you just take one multi vitamin or multiple ones? Which ones? What are the pros and cons to taking one vitamin over the separate ones?
Thanks for all the help!

I have to take vitamins because I'm anemic. I take iron, vitamin c, folic acid, and b12. All of these work together in order to get my blood functioning properly. I say take a multivitamin. If you're not taking it for anything specific and just want the little extra boost, I recommend a multi. If you're looking to take something for the potassium and calcium, take a low dose of the supplements for those.0

I don't take them. I do Shakeology in the morning as a meal replacement and along with it I get the benefits of them included! Check out the nutritional labels if you're interested. This stuff is great.

I take Kirkland Signature Vitamins and Minerals, although I want to get something a little better. I also take an extra iron pill and a flaxseed oil gelcap. I usually take a teaspoon or two of coconut oil every day as a supplement as well.
Vitamins are excreted via the urine if you don't use them, so it doesn't really hurt to take them just to be safe. (I'm sure there are exceptions to this...it's just a general rule of thumb).0 -
I do a woman's multivitamin and chromium (helps boost metabolism)!0

I take a multivitamin and Viactiv Calcium Plus Vitamin D. However, after a blood panel, I found I was extremely low in Vitamin D, so my doctor added 4000 iu of D3 per day and because of my chronic fatigue syndrome, he added Vitamin B12. I do not add any supplements or vitamins without knowing what my body needs. It's easy for unnecessary vitamins and minerals to cause problems and interact with other medicines and bodily functions. We will redo the blood tests on a regular basis and I will only take them as long as I am deficient.0

I do, mostly because I know I am not eating spot on... and you don't get as much from food as you used too.
I take GNC Women's Ultra Mega Green.
It has digestive enzymes in it too, that help my tummy.0 -
THANKS everyone! This really helped. Going out tomorrow.0

Yes I do - I take a load of them every morning.
1) I take 3 Bluebonnet superearth multinutrient caplets (whole food/herb multivitamin) one serving are 3 caplets.
2) I take extra calcium - Oscal 500 mg and calcium also helps in reducing your fat absorption in addition to its other obvious benefits.
3) 1 capsule of Gingko Biloba
4) 1 capsule Lutein (eye health)
5) 1 capsule of raw vitamin D3 (overall health & fights the flu - shown in a prison population)
6) Omega 3 - 2 gels (keeps you young, sharp and healthy).
Then I drink bio kefir and 8 oz of Acai juice every morning (just started with the Acai juice - I got sucked into this - it has a great taste).0 -
I would like to add a question to this topic. For those who take vitamins, do you take them in the morning, evening, or at different times throughout the day?0

Do you take vitamins?
Yes.Why
I started years ago to aid for depression. Now I just take them when I find I'm consistently low in something. If you do, do you just take one multi vitamin or multiple ones?
I switch it up.Which ones?
Garden of life-Vitamin code Raw whole food vitamins.

I think both are fine, it just depends on what you need. If you are lacking in potassium and calcium only, then you likely wont get the calcium you need from a multi. If you are close to meeting all your requirements and just need a small all around boost, a multi will work just fine. I think whats even more important is that you choose the right kind of vitamins. Not all vitamins are created equal. Food based vitamins are best. Try and stay clear of the synthetic crap. Obviously the best and most effective vitamins you can take in are from whole foods.0 -
I just talked to my doctor about this last week. He said all I need to take is a multi vitamin, calcium and vitamin D. He said the multi vitamin has everything else that I need. He also said that to many vitamins can cause problems with kidneys.0
