My frustration with MFP

First off, I want to say that I have been using this site for 2.5 weeks and I love it! It really helps me to track what I eat and I realize now how bad I truely was eating! I love the support from the fellow members and some days when I don't feel like making that trip to the gym, their words of encouragement is what really gives me that push! I even joined a group challenge and so far so good!
My main problem is MFP is this: There are so many people on here who feel like it is their right to shove their diet/fitness beliefs down people's throats who don't ask for it. I am sorry but if you know nothing about my health history, lifestyle, habits, family medical history, etc. it is hard for me to take you seriously if you are trying to tell me I HAVE to eat a certain way or diet. If I have to read about why if I don't eat this or that, we will die a horrible death from diabetes, stroke, cancer, etc. Without doing a health assessment on the particular individual that you are directing your statement towards, , I can only take your advice as absurd at its best.
Based on trial and error, I am pretty sure that I know what works best for me and MY body. If you have found a lifestyle that works for you and you are passionate about it, I applaud you and wish you nothing but continued success in life. I am willing to listen and learn about your lifestyle choices and why it works for you. However, I truly believe that diet is not a one size fit all for everybody. That is why so many people fail at diets and YOU have to find what works best for YOU. That can be Atkins, Paleo, low fat, low carb, etc. Whatever it is, I respect you that you have made that choice for you but don't expect me to start following it just because it worked for YOU.
I am fortunate to have been born and raised in a wealthy nation like the USA where pretty much every type of food is readily available. That's the beauty of all, we have freedom of choice and whether we are improving or health or harming it, it is a direct result of our OWN choices.
End Rant.

I think the only times I see people "shove" their diets, nutrition, exercise, etc. knowledge down others throats is when an opinion is asked on a forum. If an opinion or question is asked in a forum setting, you are going to get opinions and answers from a gazilllion different people who think their way is the only way. Then, you will have the other gazillion people pat you on the back and sugarcoat crap, because they think that is what you want to hear. It's the interwebs. It happens.0

hmm, i don't have experience with this (and hope i do not, because i will probably yell at people), but i agree- unless you're eating like, rocks in an effort to sustain a zero-calorie diet, it's really none of anyone's business unless you specifically ask. sorry you have to deal with people like that0

Very well put! I'm thankful I haven't run into a whole lot of that over the 10 months I've been a member here.0

People are only trying to help. . if you were PERFECT. . and had the best solution possible. . . YOU WOULDN'T be HERE!!!0

I completely agree. The problem is how some people spin their opinions to be "fact".0 -
It's life...people say things...it's up to you to weed out the good information from the bad, why would this forum be any different than any other social setting?0

I never said that I was perfect, far from it! HA! If people want to help me by encouraging me to work out or drink water or eat more fruits and veggies then that's great. What I don't find helpful is when people tell me that I will die a slow and painful death if I don't follow their way. I'm not implying that you are one of them, but from reading a lot of the forum topics, seems like there are some of them here on MFP.0 -

I can't say I entirely agree with that statement, but eh, to each his or her own...0 -

That is true, what works for others may not work for you & vice versa. However you also have to take into consideration that people are trying to voice out their opinions & its up to you to follow them or not. I have been on MFP 3 months ago & also in this forum but I never encountered anyone that say you should do this & that. Its just an advice & we cannot control a person whether he takes it or not.0

I'm curious to know if your diary is set to private. It seems like people will comment more if they can see your food diary. Mine is on private so I don't get too many comments. Anyway, you are right that only you know you! Well said!0

Mine is set on private for that reason. I haven't received too many nasty comments towards me. It's an observation based on me reading a lot of forum topics that get way out of hand.0 -

That makes sense. . .Really you just have to kind of weed through all the stuff here and form your own opinion and what works for you. . Do some of your own research would be my advice when someone says something that sounds incorrect. . .
The best of luck to you in your journey. . . Didn't mean to sound like I was being rude. . Just saying keep an open mind. . there are a lot of people here that really do have some great advice. . :flowerforyou:0 -
Oh my gosh that is so incredibly cute. .0 -

I know that people have said they've received random messages on their diaries and what not, but I haven't had that experience. My experience is pretty much the same as above, and if it's posted in a forum it's up for debate, if you don't want it debated then blog it instead.0 -
I hear opinions and statements all day long. I don't agree with and appreciate all of them but since there is no much I can do about it, I just try to move on....that's life.0
