Ratting Myself Out!

I just noticed tonight that I'm doing something that may be detrimental to my diet. While preparing a PB&J for the hubby I licked the knife before putting it in the sink (without even thinking about it)...then as I was putting out some chips to go with this sandwich, I snagged one out of the bag and popped it in my mouth...I also stole a sip of his pepsi while sitting next to him on the couch. I know that I probably do this all the time without even thinking about it but tonight for some reason I noticed it and got to thinking about how bad this might actually be.....how many extra calories could I be adding to my day by indulging in this bad little habit?

The more I think about it the more I realize...I do this ALOT!

I noticed I did that too a while back. It's amazing how the little slips here and there add up! Now we know!!

Most of us do that and that's why we slow our progress of shredding those extra, because to count all those little bit of calories, at the end of the day they add up :-)

Log every bite and don't feel guilty about it. Just log it to the best you can.
  • Well you are still loosing weight, a little taste shouldn't matter. If it bothers you that much add it to your diary.

Great job in recognizing this! My biggest problem is mindless eating. If you can control that, you have won half the battle!!

I heard someone once say they would each bite/lick/nibble as an automatic 50 calories if they didn't know what it was on its own. Thats probably too high, but its an interesting idea.... I do that all the time, just a sip of juice straight from the container, or not measuring the exact amount of butter or PB I'm using....

    Mini sabatours!!!!

aha! I just realized I pop stuff in my mouth thinking 'it's not that much' but you are so right, 'not that much' adds up.

Having a toddler makes it even harder. If he doesn't eat his chicken nuggets, I finish them. If he doesn't want his cheese stick, guess who eats it? But I try to log it all. So if my diary says "1/2 a string cheese" now you know why!

I too have a problem with mindless eating. I have always had a problem with eating when I'm bored. Staying active and not allowing myself to get bored has really helped that problem.

I always log the bits 'n' pieces, as if you don't it shows on the scale

I have a daycare and when I started on this site a few weeks ago, I realized just how fast a handful of goldfish crackers or animal crackers adds up. I thinks I finally broke the habit of a handful for me but I still have to think about it, especially cooking.
