Ok, this feels really .... odd to talk about, but im hoping some people here have had, or will be having, the same experience.

Im been in sweatpants and plain t-shirts for...well, as long as i can remember, being big as long as i can remember. Now however, im getting to the stage where i can wear what i want to wear. Jeans, shirts, etc.

But...

...I've got NO idea what i should be wearing now! Ive got no idea how a shirt/t-shirt SHOULD fit! Ive worn them sooo baggy for so long, i really have no clue as to how it should fit! Same with lower half. Jeans? Are jeans still "in"? Trousers? Ive got no clue! Shirts? No idea!

Am i alone?

I'd get online and look at some department stores that are in your area that you will be shopping at...look at what the models are wearing to get an idea of the style. Then when you do go shop, ask someone that works there to help you, if you feel comfortable doing so, if not...grab the things you like and start trying them on...don't judge things on the hanger sometimes they look better/worse than you think...

Girlfriend!!! I can help you. First, buy the popular magazine, that is advertising "FALL STYLES". Over on this side of the pond, it is called "People Magazine". Second, shop at a store that specializes in stylish, women's clothing. If you go to the department stores (which I DO NOT recommend), you will have hit or miss fashion. You will not know what you are getting or if it is in style. I shop at the "Loft", a smaller boutique, because it always has the right clothes for the right moment (and because they are classy, I can wear them for years). I can wear my outfits to work, on dates, or use them for fun occasions. Extra bonus- they clothing looks nice even if you gain a few or lose a few pounds.

    Good luck!

You're not alone...trust me. I had to get a whole new wardrobe when I initially lost the weight, like EVERYTHING! I brought a girlfriend with me and told her to be brutally honest. Good or bad.
  • First, Good For You!

Second, Do you have a sister, friend, friend's wife, wife's friend or anyone you're close to that you can go shopping with? Preferably someone who knows about your weight loss and can celebrate your success with you by buying some snazzy new duds?

I know for myself that I was so self-conscious of my belly that I usually wore stuff loose but now I'm more comfortable with something a little more snug. I know there's still a belly there but I'm proud of how much smaller it is now that I'm willing to let people see what's left of it instead of hiding under a tent.

I think you'll find that having some good-fitting clothes will help to keep you motivated because you'll look better and therefore feel more confident and stylish in them. Good luck!

Girl, you need to go shopping ....with me! Strange but I feel proud for you.
Fit can be tricky. Some people like loose fit and other would prefer skin tight. It really depends on how you feel looking at yourself in the mirror.
Jeans are always in. :) A simple button down shirt is fool proof.
I don't know how skinny you are now but if you are still on the heavy side, try to stay away from those extremely baggy or skinny pants. A well tailored straight leg pants will make you look sleek. If you are pear shaped or curvy, a dress with snipped in waist would be a good choise. I think Mrs. Obama has some good examples.
I'm a fashion junkie so I'm afraid I can't stop when it comes to my domain. LOL

    Good Luck!

No you are not alone. My husband had this exact issue. He was so accustomed to wearing big and baggy that he felt odd in clothes that actually fit! It has taken several months, but finally he sees the light!

Clothes that fit look so much better and I think mentally make you feel better.

Get the opinion of someone you trust...wife, girlfriend, guy friend with good taste. Heck even the salesman, if you shop in a better department store.

It might take you a while to get used to your new look. That's normal.

Happy shopping and congrats to you!
  • Go shopping! Bring a friend who you think has great taste and make a day of it. Try things on. So many things look terrible on the hanger but great on a body (or vice versa), the only way to really know is to try. If you still have a decent amount of weight to lose don't get a ton of clothes but a few basic pieces and some fun accessories should work

Fashion is transient, style is forever.

I recommend doing some research by reading magazines and looking out for styles of clothing that you like. Don't worry about them being in 'fashion' or not. The basic principle is, if you can grab a handful of cloth then it's too loose, if you're can grab a handful of your own flesh, then it's too tight ;)

Is there any public figure that you like the style of? Anyone you think "hey, she looks really good" whenever you see a photo of her?
