Lose weight after 65

I just turned 65 and I am 20-25 pounds overweight. I work out for 60+ minutes 3days a week. I am struggling to drop weight. I don't eat processed sugar and consume about 1500 calories a day. I am looking forward to tracking my exercise and food consumption to get to my goal weight.

Wishing you the best!!
I'm 66, have been up and down on the scale all my life but *finally* feel committed enough to live the rest of my life healthier! Seeing my counts on MFP helps a lot with that. I technically would like to lose maybe another 5# but know that I will always feel overweight. My high in life was 235, my low was 129, 5'9". ATM I'm 141.
Anyways, good luck and keep posting! You'll make it!!1 -
I’m 71 years old trying to lose weight to avoid Diabetes. I need to lose 80-100 pounds. Exercise is restricted to 30 minutes 5 days a week due to bad back and arthritis in knee. I do low impact aerobics and stationary sit down biking. It’s hard to lose the weight with my calorie intake set at 1810 a day. I only eat around 1600 calories a day.

I'm in your boat except that I already have Type II Diabetes so that makes it even harder to drop the pounds, plus our metabolism is slower, for sure. You're doing very well with your exercising which is another component that I'm adding to my lower food intake. I wish all of you here great results and here's hoping that we can all stick with this as a life change way of eating rather than a diet because that is what it's going to take to make our weight loss permanent.1

Add me too. I’m 70, 5’10”, 225. I have always lost weight with exercise better than with diet. I can’t exercise much just because of those old age aches and pains. I have found a pool nearby and have my fingers crossed.0

It can work! While I was a few years younger, I lost about 50 pounds (obese to healthy weight) with MFP back in 2015 at age 59-60 (while hypothyroid, if it matters), and have maintained a healthy weight since.
Like you (@gcolsonissbr), I had been athletically pretty active for a long time (10+ years) while obese. For me, the trick was getting my calorie intake in line with what I burn at a more sensible body weight, while maintaining pretty much the same activity level.
Best wishes!0 -
Kudos to all of you for making a decision to be a healthier you!0
