Y’all!! This week can be so difficult for many of us having to celebrate Thanksgiving without loved ones this year. Let’s support each other so no one here feels alone this week. Let’s encourage each other to stay on track, so we don’t stress-eat ourselves into oblivion! If anyone else is struggling this Thanksgiving, please know I understand and am here to support you in any way I can!! Much love to you, MFP friends!!

I lost my son in May, been thinking about him a lot recently. Definitely going to be a subdued holiday season this year.21

This will be my 2nd Thanksgiving without my parents. They both passed away in the Summer of 2018...Some of my best memories are around the holidays. Hugs to everyone that goes through loss.16

Both my dds will be spending Thanksgiving elsewhere due to travel expense(they live quite far away )but I will get to see them at Christmas.
But yes, I will be missing my parents, my sister and my son. My parents have both been gone many years but holidays were big for them and it's never been the same since. My sister has been gone a lot of years but another life cut too quickly, and it happened the weekend following Thanksgiving so this time of year is definitely bittersweet, at best. My son only had 1 Christmas with us but it left me with many memories and lots of pictures of a dear sweet boy that left too soon.
Life is way too short so show the people in your life how much you care about them. I am so sorry to those who will be seeing empty spaces around the table this year.14 -
Hugs for you dear people.
I'm from UK, so its not Thanksgiving I'm dreading but Christmas, we lost our grandson in May this year, he was just 20 months old.
The holidays are a difficult time for so many.15 -
Keep remembering those that are gone or not present, in your hearts.❤️
Wishing you all, the best!4 -
I lost my 26 yo daughter in May 2018, and last year's holidays weren't the same. I am dreading this year, as my husband is having an extremely tougher time this year. Exercise has become my escape from falling into a darker place than I already am.18

I lost my parents five years ago, and I just buried my oldest brother in May. My brother and his wife are joining us for the first time.13

Thank you for posting this. This is a pretty sad time of the year for me. I lost my mom right after Thanksgiving 2 years ago to cancer. I was her caregiver and she lived with me. I can't experience this time of year without reliving the pain of that last Thanksgiving dinner and all kinds of poignant and sad memories that accompanied her last few weeks. My mom and I were incredibly close, like best friends. I used to love Thanksgiving, but now it is super hard for me. I am sure many of us have something like this, it's important to acknowledge the grief too that can come with holidays when we are missing someone.11

Mom since 1990, Dad since 2007, Little Brother since 2011, assorted other family and friends the latest being a dear friend since November 9th. Thankful that they've all been part of me.10

The. Holidays are always very hard for me as well. 6 years ago my brother committed suicide on thanksgiving day. My father passed away on Christmas Eve. Another brother died from leukemia on January 3 and another brother from pancreatic cancer on feb 5. Out of 6 siblings I only have 1 brother left. Sister passed away 6 months after a brother... and all my siblings were not even 55 yrs old. So the holiday get together is very small compared to what I used to have. So every year I tend to gain weight. This year I am working hard on not doing that. I know ones that we have lost would want us to take care of ourselves and to look at not what we have lost, but what we still have. Bless you all.14

I'm a widowed, orphaned, childless only child, and have been for well over a decade. So, sure.
Heading to SIL/BIL's place for Thanksgiving, as they're wonderful, dear people who "kept me" after my husband, their brother, died in 1998 at age 45. They're in their 80s now, so things will be changing again soon. That will be OK, because it has to be.
The path ahead will be positive, because that's what most everyone we're missing would want for us, right? I just try to keep walking in that direction, and hope y'all can, too.
Happy Thanksgiving, folks!7 -
Lost my 28 year old great-niece last weekend. Even though we knew it was coming, you can't prepare for the loss. Going to be a rough Thanksgiving for the whole family.8

I have only recently "gave myself permission" to enjoy the whole of the Christmas season let alone Thankgiving. My mom died on December 4th 1990 and for many years I'd refuse to do anything Christmasy before that day.8 -
Every Thanksgiving is hard for me. When I was 16 years old my grandmother was murdered on Thanksgiving. My way of dealing with it is to ignore the holiday, pretty much. It is just another day for me. I have never liked turkey and all the trimmings. We're having a relaxing day at home. I am doing spa treatments and having homemade pizza and blackberry crumble for "Thanksgiving".
I feel for all of you who have a hard time with this or any holiday. Hang in there!6 -
My heart is with everyone who is struggling today. It’s so hard, I know. I am sending each one of you (((great big hugs))) and all my love. Tomorrow will be a fresh new day as we continue to lift each other up on our journey. Hang in there, friends! We are all in this together. Much love! ❤️🙏4
