I have a hard time staying in a routine and keeping motivation- I’ll go strong for a week then I tapped off and it’s sporadic. Then I’ll kick it up then it’s repeating all over... ugh help!

Motivation is fleeting--that's why you have to make new habits. You know, like brushing your teeth, combing your hair, cleaning,..... Just as you do these things, you log in your food, you exercise,......

Like kimny72, I've made it easy on myself. Consistency is surprisingly effective!

Small changes. Refusing to give up.

Like Kimmy72 I started with just focusing on making logging a habit. And slowly added additional changes from there.

You posts sounds pretty typical of someone who goes too hard too fast, burns out quickly and gives up. You are not going to be able to overhaul your whole lifestyle overnight. You have to walk before you can run. So pick 1-2 habits to focus on and really stick to it for a month then start adding in new ones.

I don't always feel motivated. Sometimes I feel like exercising, sometimes I don't. Sometimes I have bad days (TOM) and spend my calories on junk food and snacks.

But I always log my food and my exercise/ activity and respect my calorie goals (unless there is a special occasion for which I decide beforehand I can go over, in moderation).

Habit and consistency are key, but motivation is not a determining factor.
And as has been said before: don't try to turn your life around in one go, build your new habits step by step.

I think the word motivation over the years has been beat to death.
I agree with most everything already written. But for me, my big aha has been weighing everything I eat. I admit I use to be an eyeballer. Now it is a total habit as I make anything, weigh all ingredients, I do not even have to think about it. Now a truly ingrained habit.

I also log all the time, and do some pre-logging if I know it will be same for a few days.

When I first started for the first three months or so I did very little exercise. But then I started very slowly. Now I do 6 days a week and it is something I can see me doing for the rest of my life.

And I finally accepted this is a long journey, really with no end. Because first there is the losing of weight, then maintaining. So it is not a race, it is about leaning new good habits that will sustain for years to come. Be patient, which is at times hard when we just want it now.

Consistency and determination topped with a big desire of staying healthy while aging gracefully. All served with a nice portion of vanity and love of exercise and healthy food. The feeling of accomplishment and self empowering are my daily deserts.

It also helps that I am not a foodie and very "particular" about food. ;)

It helps to have someone to help keep you motivated like a friend or family member that want to go along on the journey too. Find foods that you enjoy making and eating. Being aware of how everything you put in your body makes you feel can be a motivator too.
