How many calories should a person burn every day? I just started dieting and exercising a week ago, and today I got up to 584 calories burned. It doesn't sound like it's enough? And my dr. put me on a 1200 calorie diet.

    ball park figure ...
13 calories/lb for a sedentary life, like a desk job, lots of tv, little walking, etc
    15 calories/lb for moderate lifestyle
17 calories/lb for an active lifestyle

just a rough estimate to get you going.

Depends on how active you are.... and what activities you're doing. (i.e. kickboxing burns a ton of calories, yoga is great for you but doesn't burn as much). I try to balance out my week. I know on Saturday I go to pitaiyo, so that's going to be a lower burning calorie day. I have kickboxing twice a week and I do an additional 30-45 minutes of cardio on top of that before kickboxing, I have my other trainer twice a week as well.... Normally I burn 900-1100 calories most days -- but I have been working out hardcore for a long time now. When i started I was in the 500-600 calorie range. You'll work up naturally - but to be sure you burn calories effectively, keep your work out routine new and fun -- your muscles get used to work outs so don't do the same thing day in and day out -- it won't work.

    Good luck!

500-700 calories is the max most people should burn in a day. Those calories should come from activity throughout the day, not just an intense 30 minute workout at the gym.

Make sure you're eating at least half of your exercise calories back. 1200 calories per day puts you a significant calorie deficit and you don't want to make it even bigger by not eating those exercise calories.

I work out everyday using the biggest loser on xbox. And today I started walking. So I do want to eat my exercise calories back? I wasn't sure if I should or not?
