Question Regarding Today's Diary

Hmmm so I was going to only allow myself that last snack (the low fat fudge bar) later tonight. However, am I too far under calories? I got a warning saying as much... But I'm already way over on protein and eating more would just put me over on other stats as well. This has brought an entire new predicament to my attention:

Is it better to eat calories and go over on stats, or not eat the calories and stay under stats?

I've never encountered this before.

(Probably because I've been more balanced when I'm in control of preparing my meals, but I didn't have time to cook yesterday for today. It looks like tonight may be a similar situation as well, so I'd like to know for tomorrow!)

Edit: My diary is public so feel free to look. I haven't actually eaten my snack yet, so that can be adjusted.

Ideal protein for a woman on a calorie deficit diet is 25-30%. 25% is hard for me to achieve but my base is higher and I burn/eat at least 500 extra calories than you are so it should be easier for you to reach. I would say go for the snack, that's fine. How many calories is it? You should never NET below 1200. So if you exercise and get extra calories, eat enough to where your NET is 1200 (it will show you on your homepage at the top of your header). Net is what you ate MINUS exercise. So if you exercise, you should be eating more... not necessarily all of it, but to at least net 1200.

If you are trying to focus mostly on protein, fats, sugars and carbs then forget the snack

    On the other hand:

If you are just trying to stay under calories go for it...it really is all up to you and how you want to do your journey.

I try to stay under calories and watch my sugar and carbs, but tonight went way over my sugars...most days it is fruit sugar and I don't worry about that, tonight it was the brownies my son made (i have not had these in many months) and once in a great while will not hurt me...it's only when this becomes a habit that it becomes a problem for me.

I am pretty much at my goal weight and moving even lower so I can afford to cheat once in awhile...my journey is up to me, and that is the same for you...you are in control of your destiny, as far as this journey goes...reach for the stars and you will go far.

Blessings and joy to you !!!

In my opinion, and I'm not a nutrition expert, counting calories is not an exact science. It's more about what choices we make and how we feel when we make those choices. There are days when I only NET several hundred calories and there are days when every number at the bottom of my log is RED. I refuse to force feed myself because of what people say I should or shouldn't do. We all know what works for us and if we are on target more days than not, I think we're doing ok. Like I said, this is just my opinion.

    Thank you for the replies!

I didn't work out today as I have on other days. I do not generally net less than 1200, so that message is weird for me lol.

In the past, I have met my calories without having to worry about stats too much. Today is the first day I have encountered the problem of going over on stats to meet my minimum 1200 calories and I am not sure which is the better path.

Edit: Okay well not the ONLY day I've gone over on stats for calories, but the first day it has been a significant amount. :P

I decided to go ahead and eat my calories even if I go over on stats. It isn't like I do it all the time and I worked out pretty hard this week, so some extra protein probably isn't a bad thing. I added some other veggie type snacks that will bring me closer to calories without influencing the stats too much. Thanks for your opinions guys :) Others can still feel free to chime in for future reference, but I can't wait anymore tonight! :D
