While I'm all in favor of building muscle for lots of reasons, a lb of muscle burns about 6 calories per day. Not a game changer or amazing results by any means.24 -
Its great for retaining rmr, but not a big calorie burner.8

Meh, I dont do weight training.
Not because I fear it - but just because I dont want to.
quite happy with my ordinary results, my body is burning energy fine.
About at the calorie level I am consuming food, actually - as evidenced by consistent weight maintenance -
but Good Luck to those who weight lift for amazing results.
But not for me, thanks.

Neither optimist nor pessimist. Just an accuratist (wow, spell check let that through!).
I am a huge proponent of weight training. Getting stronger, more functional and looking better are all great benefits! But lets not over represent the energy burning thing. And fat is metabolically active at about 4 calories per lb. So, if one is gaining muscle and losing fat, the net is not much from a calorie burning point of view.
A wise man once told me, "intelligent people presented with accurate information will usually make good decisions."4 -

And this came from a MFP moderator....let that sink in.
OP, your post, in essence, is very true. Educate yourself, learn your individual body, make quantifiable plans, and enjoy yourself on the rollercoaster ride of fitness, and also in life in general.4 -
