Hi
My name is Jan and I'm a bit long in the tooth at 65. For the past 20 years I have struggled with my weight- I am now up to 75 pounds over my weight goal. I started again for the umpteenth time 3 days ago. I have a multitude of medical issues brought on by my weight gain, and finally hope to correct some of them.
I retired after 33 years as a 911 operator, moved out of state and unfortunately had to get a job yet again. I'm a Communications Operator for our local Hospital group.
I am allowed to share my home with one dog Munchie- (Shih Tzu-Terrier mix) and Miss Tinkerbell ( Tuxedo cat). I'm an avid reader and love spending time with my family. ( 1 son, 4 grandchildren and 7.5 great grand children) I watch a little TV, but other than a few favorite programs, tend to listen to Sirius and Spotify)
I have a dry sense of humor, and enjoy visiting with people.
I'm hoping to really commit to my weight loss this time

Welcome. I'm 57 and have been grappling with the greater difficulty losing weight as I age and metabolism decreases. A quote I like goes something like this. 'Your desire to change must be greater than your desire to stay the same.' Simple truth. Desiring to stay the same is overeating, etc. What have I been doing and what has been working for me? I get up early and walk 2-3 miles. Walking is so good for so many reasons: calorie burn, strengthen bones, muscles, joints, aids in balance longevity. Also what I try to do that I'm not always effective at is breaking up the evening. Now it is colder where I live so sometimes I just go walk at the mall in the evening. Thank you for sharing your story. Your family sounds nice. May you have a Healthy & Happy 2020. Self discipline is the greatest reward you can give yourself. It is easy to eat something. Reward yourself with your discipline not to eat it. Even write in a journal that you didn't eat something. Baby steps!! Jeff1

Happy New Year!!
Baby steps it is
I do well when I'm off work and at home, but darn it, sitting for 10 hours attached to a headset takes it's toll. I have the pleasure of working tonight, so we will see how I do. I think with a co-worker on board, it should be easier.. I use a journal, and have for years ( when I behave, that is) never thought of writing what I am tempted to eat, but don't. I shall try that..
It's pretty darn cold and slippery here, so I haven't walked all that much, no excuse- I have a bike that should help and I plan on using that for now until the streets aren't so slick-
Lietchi: thank you, I have been checking all the forums and boards- There sure is a lot out there, if a person takes the time.1
