I love peanut butter too, but it is high in fat, so I would say have your pb... but in moderation.

as long as you are creating a caloric deficit, you are fine. processed PB has sugar (some more than others). natural PB does not have sugar (or anything else)....just pure nut butter. however, if you don't like peanuts, you don't like peanuts. I don't eat certain healthy foods because I don't like them. If you don't like something, you shouldn't try to force feed it to yourself. find what you like and eat it in moderation. you will be fine.

I eat Kraft lower-fat smooth, because I like the flavour and texture the best. I have a little for breakfast. Great protien, healthy fats, but watch the calories! Easy to eat 3 tablespoons and blow 240 calories in about 30 seconds. SO GOOD!

i hate the kind of you have to stir too...try skippy natural peanut butter...they have smooth, and they have smooth peanut butter with honey. it tastes JUST like normal peanut butter!
  • Peanut butter isn't 'bad', in fact, it's reasonably healthy... however, I avoid it like the plague because it's so loaded with calories and fat it's not worth teasing myself with a measly teaspoon!

I love peanut butter too. I have tried the Skippy natural PB and was not a fan of it. I prefer JIF reduced fat PB. For every 2 TBSP serving it's 190 cal and 12 grams of fat while the original has 16 grams of fat.

Make sure it doesn't have hydrogenated vegetable oil in it. That's what makes most peanut butters unhealthy. Try the all-natural smooth pb instead.

    P. S. Don't pour off the layer of oil at the top. That's what keeps its texture when you stir it.

It's high in fat, but they are all healthy fats that promote brain function, prevent diabetes and are GOOD for your heart. Low-Fat options are removing natural healthy plant-based fats and adding sugar and chemicals.

Moderation because it's high in calories, but you get a lot of bang for your buck as far as nutrition and satisfaction go.

As far as I'm concerned ingredients should be just: PEANUTS, SALT.
I look for NO SUGAR ADDED... that includes, corn syrup, HFCS, honey or anything that ends in an "ose" sucrose, fructose, sucralose....

Because sugar is not just empty calories, it INCREASES YOUR APPETITE.
  • I may catch some crap for this but..... There is a chocolate peanut butter by Peanut Butter & Company - Dark Chocolate Dreams which has about the same nutritional value as most all natural PB's out there and the same calories. I spread it on a banana once a week and just love the stuff. My kids love it too.

However, I eat natural PB from maple grove and an apple almost every day to get good proteins and fats from my snack food.

i love peanut butter. it's good for you. some fats are good. anything will have sugar and theres a lot of protein and good stuff in PB so i wouldn't worry about the sugar. I eat a lot of peanut butter during the day, i just only have 1 tbs on sandwiches instead of 2. I'll eat toast with peanut butter for breakfast around 8:30 and it usually fills me until around 2 when I can eat again-- my schedule is ridiculous so i never get a chance to eat unless i'm on a break. When i'll eat at 2 i have a peanut butter an jelly sandwich because its easy to bring to campus with me. I'm a big advocate for PB since it fills me up so much, just make sure you pay attention to how much youre eating or the calories will add up fast! I usually use just the generic brand, depending on where i shop. I have "My Essesitials" now and it's a little more calorie loaded--100 calories per tbs-- but most will be between 80-100 calories a tbs anyways.

i say go for the normal stuff. a lot of "healthy" stuff really isn't that great anyway, Low fat usually means ridiculously high in sodium. Pay attention to labels and you should be ok ;)

I have been a life long lover of peanut butter. There are some who view it as a kid's food. If so, I'm a 70 YO kid! In Iowa, we have Village Hearth Lite 12 grain bread (80 calories and 17 carbs for 2 slices). I used to use 1 TBSP. per slice of toast in the AM, but am now cutting it to 1 TBSP. spread thinly over the 2 slices. With my banana and cup of tea, it is one of my favorite breakfasts. With what I eat the rest of the day, I don't go over my fat calorie goals, so as long as I limit its use, I think PB is great! I have said before that a day without peanut butter is like a day without sunshine!

i love the sound of peanut butter with honey! all natural but still the normal peanut butter taste!
  • Try the PB2 products. MUCH lower on calories, tastes the same to me.... Only 45 calories per 2 TBS

Jif has a natural low sodium that tastes just like the normal kind. Its a better bad decision. I love PB, so I eat it. Subs out honey for High Fructose Corn Syrup. You have to watch your intake because of the sugar content, but I'm not going to give it up. Ironically, sugar almost always converts to fat, and fat only converts to fat if you have you don't have a calorie deficit.

peanut butter is not bad for you, even the processed kind. It is high in protein. Sure, it has sugars and fat, but not enough to do a good deal of harm. People training swear by it. Not all fat is bad and your body does need some fat now and again. Just not boatloads of it. Eat away!

Have you tried Almond butter or other nut butters. That could be a good option for you to get proteins and healthy fats.
  • I like fresh ground peanut butter. It is a good source of healthy fats. As you are not a big fan of peanuts, consider trying a fresh ground almond butter which has a more delicate flavor. It is a bit pricey but it is not like you are going to spend a fortune on nut butters if you are watching your caloric intake.

PB2 is what I use. Once in awhile I'll toss in a Jiffy Peanut Butter but a treat but not on a regular basis.
  • Natural peanut butters do not have trans fat but a lot of the regular ones do...so just look out for that!! :) Maybe try the Skippy Natural with Honey..you make like that better :)

If you don't like peanut butter - try one of the other nut butters. Look at the ingredient list If you can read and know what everything is, it is probably ok. It should only have 3-4 ingredients tops. Anything more than that and they are adding stuff you really don't need.

Not all "regular" pb is bad. Just check the label and make sure it has NO trans fat and watch the sugar content.

Walden Farms has a Peanut spread that is calorie free, but has peanuts in it. I have not tried it, but I use their calorie free salad dressings.

Now I want to eat some peanut butter after reading this thread.
  • I love all brands of nut butters and eat them frequently. They are full of healthy fats and protein and while I mostly incorporate them into breakfast (mixed into oatmeal or spread on a banana) I will eat sandwiches once in a while.

My current favorite is sunflower butter but I also love almond butter!
