If you do 300calories worth of exercise and add that’s exercise on my fitness pal app, does that mean you allow 300 calories extra food?

MFP "goals" will calculate the number of calories you should eat to lose weight. How much you have to lose and your starting weight will determine which rate of weight loss will be best for you (0.5 lbs-2 lbs/week). For example, if you aren't very overweight, aiming to lose 2 lbs/week might be unrealistic (and potentially unhealthy). As you get closer to your goal you may need to modify the rate of loss targeted.

As you lose weight, if you want MFP to modify your calorie target to maintain the same rate of weight loss you will need to redo your goals. It will slowly lower the number of calories you should aim to eat per day since you body will need fewer calories as you lose weight.

For tracking exercise and eating back exercise calories you may need to play around a bit with whether you eat all of the added calories. Some activities may overestimate the number of calories burned. I've heard many folks will eat back about half of the calories burned. Try out eating all the calories back, and if it seems like your weight loss is progressing slower than your target rate of loss, then cut back a bit on how many exercise calories you eat.

If you happen to do an activity that isn't in the MFP list, I recommend finding something that is a similar level of effort to track it as. For example, I do aerial (trapeze) conditioning, which is not in MFP, but the workout is pretty similar to doing Pilates and strength training, so I track is as one of those. There are a couple other activities I do where I know MFP calculates the calories burned way to high, and so I do the same thing as if the activity wasn't in MFP.

my fitness pal has set my daily allowance at 1580. I’m on my feet all day with 3 kids under 3 and do 30min treadmill exercise daily, changing it up everyday. I wear an Apple Watch and it says I burn 800 calories which I hit everyday. How do I work out my calorie allowance based on this and for weight loss? Thanks

Is 1580 for maintenance or weight loss? If that is your maintenance calories, then you would eat 500 less to lose 1 lb. a week, or 250 less to lose .5 a week. Did you tell MFP that you are active or sedentary? If you said active, then some/most of the 800 activity calories are included in that number. In that case I would only eat back the calories you burn with your 30 minutes on the TM.

Then eat 1580 plus at least half the calories you burn during your 30 minutes at the gym.

Awesome thank you! So would you say roughly 1700calories? I go on the treadmill everyday
