Chai Latte Substitute

I learned to love chai lattes because of my dog. His favorite place to visit was the local coffee shop, since they would pet him lavishly and give him treats. I didn’t like coffee, so chai lattes became my excuse to let him visit.

I’ve sorely missed them but yesterday lucked into a simple low cal substitute.

A chai tea bag, about half a tablespoon of sugar free salted caramel syrup, and 1/8 to 1/4 cup skim milk, frothed, all with a sprinkle of cinnamon on top.

Tastes just like an Oregon Chai Latte, and under 20 calories.

I use a little Ninja hand pump frother, available on Amazon. It whips skim milk into a thick froth with just a few pumps, and is easy to clean.

Just wanted to pass this along. I have already “indulged” in several cups. Here’s a toast to you, little Lucky dog. I miss you and our happy, insanely excited visits to CB. ❤️

Next time I make chai tea I will take your advice and try a teabag.
Had some rly nice chai tea at a vegan restaurant called Nishta in Dubrovnik and found the recipie in their cook book. I tried making it with the raw spice blend and added to my milk frother with soya milk.
It tasted amazing but alot of effort and the frother didn't like whole spices.

Trader Joe’s chai tea bags are very good. I’ve got some powdered Blue Lotus chai I’ll try next, but right now I’m luxuriating with the TJ lattes.

I wish I could froth oat milk successfully. I like that best of all. Anyone have any suggestions?

Oregon Chai has a sugar free version.
I use the tea bag method when a coffee shop doesn’t have a sugar free chai mix and sometimes at home.

Thanks for the tip. I didn’t know they made a sugar free. I’ll have to check it out.

But for the price, taste and lack of storage I have, I’m liking the teabag method with the syrup. I lucked into the first bottle of syrup at TJ Maxx for half retail, but even at full price, I figure it’s coming in at less than $.50 a large mug full.

I also tried some of the instant Blue Lotus brand chai mix with froth and syrup. Peppery, but still tasty.
