That's because it's not interested in helping people lose weight permanently. There's no profit in that so they sell convoluted 'programs' that offer a temporary fix so that you think it's effective and you'll keep coming back and forking over your money time and time again.9 -
Yes maybe that’s true!0

I quit 4 years ago after about 20 years of an online membership. I have since lost the weight (100 lbs) and maintained. I agree with @Danp they are not motivated to help you lose weight and keep it off. That would be shooting themselves in the foot.6

I lost weight with WW and kept it off when I kept tracking, but after falling off the wagon yet again decided to try MFP because I realized I was eating A LOT of free (WW free) foods and not losing. Although at first tracking calories was much tougher because you have to log everything (no free foods like on WW), I love that I can actually eat anything on MFP because it's just the calories - no weighted formula penalizing carbs and sugar and rewarding lean proteins. I got really afraid of carbs and sweets on WW and I hated that. I love that with MFP I still eat a healthy balanced diet but it actually feels like nothing is off limits because the calories are what they are.5

I joined WW 3 months ago after being on and off MFP for a couple of years and yo-yoing with my weight (more of a mindset thing). I thought perhaps the weigh in’s and meetings might help me stay on track better and help with mindset. I hate the WW app though. It’s so hard to track.0

I was turned off weight watchers forever years ago after my leader suggested I stop lifting weights in order to lose muscle (and therefore lose more weight) - she thought it would speed up my loss! I ran out of that office and never looked back!4
