Of course it is!
Logging calories is the first step in creating awareness about how to consume a sensible amount.
For ages I convinced myself that if it was healthy (fruit, veg, nuts, dried fruits, dips, fish, etc) I could eat it in unlimited amounts and my diet was 'healthy'.
Logging calories made me aware that I was just eating far too much.
Well done for taking the first step.1 -
Yes it works well done on day 1, may there be many successful days ahead0

I wouldn't be too bent out of shape over 47 calories. Maybe tomorrow you will under 47 calories. In my perspective it is about averages. Keep logging, weighing, and measuring food and each week look at what you accomplished!2

Don't overthink it as none of this is precise or exact. Your calorie target and the number of calories you burn could be off by a hundred or so calories in either direction. The number of calories in the food you're eating could be a hundred or so calories off in either direction.
It's all just rough figures and ballpark numbers so as long as you're pretty close to your target each day it'll tend to even out. You should try to eliminate as many variables as possible by logging as accurately as possible (weigh everything) but generally speaking near enough is good enough0 -
It took me two or three weeks before I could reliably stay less than 300 calories over, and a while to learn to stay in the green.
I still lost weight.
Right now, don't let perfect get in the way of good enough. You're learning, you're working towards your goal, and 47 calories today is not gonna make or break your efforts over the next months and years.1
