Sugar has a hold on me

I've been trying to figure out why I am so tired all the time. I am a writer and I work from home. And I'm embarrassed to say I have been taking a nap every day. Not a 20-minute power nap. An hour and a half to two hour nap. And I'm still sleepy in the evenings.
I was about to schedule some blood test to see if my vitamin levels were low and I ordered a carbon monoxide detector. Then it occurred to me that maybe I should track my diet.
I'm an idiot. This morning I consumed a hundred grams of sugar by 10:30 a.m. It's Coke. I've gotten into this bad habit of ordering a large Coke from McDonald's every morning after dropping the kids off at school for "energy".
No wonder I need to take a nap every day at lunch. I got a blood glucose monitor and my blood sugar is good and steady. so I can only assume I'm just middle-aged and not able to process sugar like I once was so the crash is harder on me. Plus.... Fat.
The nice thing about being almost 50 is that I genuinely am ready to lose weight for my health versus my looks. I'm hoping this is what makes the difference for me. Honestly they make lovely plus size clothes now and I have a nice face. So it's been too easy to rationalize that I can still look nice and be so heavy.
But I can't rationalize away the physical symptoms that are catching up with me. Fatigue and body ache. Creaky knees and plantar fasciitis. I got to get this weight off of me so I can live longer and feel better.
So I logged my giant *kitten* Coke. I have about 400 calories left for the day. I'm not going to freak out if I go over because it's my first day and I had a shity start. but I'm proud of myself for logging because in the past if I had a bad day I just wouldn't log it. So I am calling this day 1!

When you did the vitamin test, did they check for B12 as well? It's not normally done and you need to ask for that specific. My wife took one b12 vitamin and had a sudden jolt in energy for the whole day. She got it then checked specifically and turned out her b12 was dangerously low. We never even knew after all the other blood tests she had 😔. Kinda frustrating that they don't check normally.0

I know what you mean about the sugar. I was raised on it and it's a hard habit to break. I do take multi vitamins and B Complex along with Calcium + D3 and Hair, Skin and Nails suppliment. I'm 68 and in relatively good health but the older I get the more I notice. Last year I started this 10,000 steps a day thing and lost about 20 lbs but was not consistent and when the holidays came along that went out the window. Now I'm back up where I started so my "New Year's Resolution" is to stick to the 10,000 steps a day and loose weight. I have an app on my phone that counts my steps and for the past week I've been very good about logging my food and exercise. I'm able to stay under 1500 calories a day so that should help. I haven't seen any weight loss yet but it's only been a week.

I work night shift and get broken sleep so I know the feeling well. I had a sleeve weightloss surgery and lost too much weight ...dealing with chronic fatigue now due to malnutrition. I do find taking my vitamins , womens 1 A Day, Sublingual B-12, hair skin and nails and also a kids flintstone vitamin helps .0
