So, I got into the habit of drinking 8 cups of water daily. However, I'm not sure if that's the appropriate amount of water intake. How can I be sure I'm not drinking too little or too much ?

Probably a good amount for the average person. Not much objective evidence behind this number thought.

Better to go by urine color:

Drink more or less based on activity.

if your urine is very pale yellow to clear, you are getting enough water.

You get water from a lot of beverages and foods. Urine color is a good indicator for hydration, as the others said.

I drink when I'm thirsty, and it works great. Some days it's around 8 cups, some days it's much more. The more I sweat, the more I drink. If I'm in a dry place (meaning very little humidity) I need to drink more.

It's comforting to have a number goal because you can check it off and not second guess. But because there are so many variables with this one, it's better to rely on things like thirst and pee color. Advice so good you got it twice.
