Weight gain from medication?

I think my medication is causing some weight gain, and I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions, in addition to increasing exercise and decreasing calories, that have worked for you, in regards to medication induced weight gain? It's so frustrating. Thank you.

When I was on medication for the bulging disc in my spine - I saw a slight gain on the scale. For me, it was water retention. I knew that taking the meds was a temporary thing - so I didn't worry too much about it. Within a week or so of stopping them, my weight went right back to normal.

If this is a medication that you have to be on for an extended period of time, I would contact your doctor. Perhaps there is an alternate drug that will do the same things for you, but not have weight gain as a side effect?

When I was taking muscle relaxers and Vicodin on a daily basis for my herniated discs, the scale went up REALLY fast....and it wasn't all water weight. Combine that with an inactive lifestyle, due to the injury, and it was a recipe for disaster.
  • Yep, I was in the same boat. A medication my Dr put me on for my herniated disk coupled with the fact that I could hardly walk.... Let's just say that almost 3 yrs later I've finally lost the 20lbs I put on during that year.

Okay, to be honest I only really started to try and lose it about 6 mos ago ;) , but.... My advice would be: try to nip it in the bud.
  • Yes I am having similar issues medication is hindering my weight loss
