I LOVE LOVE CABBAGE...
I can eat it everyday...
I put a little oil in a hot hot frying pan, then slice my cabbage like tiny little strips,
Then fry it until well done, some crunchy still....
Then I add a small onion, & some fresh Garlic.
At the end when almost done I throw a cup of baby spinch in the pan..& Voila!!
My Question is... Is this good to eat almost everyday?
I normally change it a bit by adding new ingredients?
But would this consider being a low calorie healthy food?
I punch in fried cabbage & one says over 400 calories, & one says under 100 calories??
Witch one is it?

Calculate your own recipe that would be more accurate.:flowerforyou: The first 400 cal one might have used bacon or something to get that calorie count. You can calculate it here.

Sounds yummy to me!:drinker:0 -
Depends on how much oil you use! Put in exactly what you use and how much of each thing! You can save that meal and use eat everytime you make it!0

I love cabbage too but I do NOT fry it ..there is big difference from frying and sauteeing..u may want to start cooking it differently ..I cut the cabbage fine ..and put 1tbsp olive oil and cook low till tender...u really dont even need the olive oil if u add in a little chicken broth. Cabbage is very low calorie I cant even imagine getting it up to 100 calories much less 400....0 -
It's the oil that matters. Next time you cook, measure out your oil - that's where the calories are hiding. Olive oil is good for you, so there's no reason not to use it, as long as you use it sparingly. All the veggies you put in there would probably come to about 80 calories at most... add in about 120 cals from the olive oil and you have a nice 200 calorie side dish! With all the healthy veggies in there, if you want to eat it every day, I see no reason not to. It's a good way to get your greens in, especially with the added spinach!
Your food description is making me hungry....0 -
I LOVE cabbage. I usually steam mine. I've never tried fried cabbage. I don't think there's a such thing as TOO much cabbage....maybe the fried kind though.0

It depends on the type of oil and how much cabbage you are using. Olive oil is the best in a small amount (1 tsp ) and no more then a cup of cabbage per serving.0

Thanks for adding....
I only put maybe a Tbs of the oil..... Then because it doesnt get juicy enough,
I just add some water & salt to it...
I've never steemed my cabbage.....
But if you have, Please tell me how you make your cabbage...:flowerforyou:0 -

thank you thank you thank you for the recipe calculator. I've been looking everywhere for one that gives complete nutritional information!!! :flowerforyou:0 -
I've actually used my metal steamer to steam cabbage, cut it up, put it in the basket and some water in the bottom (be careful to not let the water boil away or you'll burn your pot like I did Also, since realizing that the microwave works primarily the same way, I have cut it up and put in a microwaveable bowl with lid, and a tblsp or two of water, and microwaved for five minutes. Either case, I then add some spray butter and salt (or no salt seasoing) - yumbo!:happy:0
