I am a sugar addict and have been for the last 40 yrs. i’m almost 45 abd have struggled with this addiction for ever. I got diagnosed with one of the autoimmune disease markers (tested for ds dna antibody as 27; normal is less than 4) as positive in Nov 2018 and my only symptom was losing hair like crazy and just generally not feeling well ( felt feverish). My rheumatologist did a thorough test for autoimmune markers and everythg showed up normal except the one ds dna antibidy. I Cleaned up my diet and symptoms disappeared within 4-8 weeks.
Was grt all through 2019, clean eating took a backseat in summer 2019, was eatg way too much sugar, greasy food. Gained the 10-15 lbs of wt that I hadlost. Then my hair loss started again in Nov 2019, was acute in Dec 2019. My old symptoms were back mainly I felt feverish when I woke up. Thats when it occured to me that sugar might be the culprit causg inflammation and recurrence of my autoimmune symptoms. Went back to clean eating since Dec 31 and this time cut out added sugar 100%. Ive been good the last 19 days and had 2 teaspooms if honey today in my tea.
Cant begin to tell everyone what a huuuugggeeee accomplishment this is gor me. I’m determined not to let sugar take my good health. So this time its no added sugar for ever. I’m scared to see how long it’ll last. Not sure if it gets easier with time. So far ok. No cravings as such.
Pl share your experience with cuttg out added sugar. I eat fruits, vegs, lean meat, nuts (nothing out of the ordinary). I log my food, calories portion sizes.

First week is the toughest. After a month to 6 weeks everything tastes too sweet..I add hot sauce and spices so my food tastes good without having sugar. Eating some nuts keeps me feeling full instead of going for cookies or a chocolate bar. Keep up the great work!2

I lsrgely eliminated added sugar from my diet by no longer eating/drinking sugar laden baked good and sodas.
Dropped over 40# from 196 to 150-155 (my current maintenance range) about 4 yrs ago when I first eliminated these things from my diet.3 -
@adchak: any updates?
I'm on Day 35 of no sugar/snacking program and it's been great!
One of the easiest diet I've ever been on, which is great because I think I will do this for as long as I can: hopefully 6+ months.
I did scheduled in 2 breaks:
- my daughter's birthday: I had a small slice of cake with fresh strawberries
- my wedding anniversary dinner: I had ice cream and fresh bread smeared with honey butter.
But I didn't have any trouble going back on my diet.
Now I plan my meals into MFP.
For Valentine's Day, I'm treating myself to a "peanut butter cup"
- Ezekial bread
- Teddy pb
- truvia sprinkled on top
- Lily's dark chocolate chips (stevia) on top
That's sounding pretty amazing to me right now.
Don't poo poo my dream.

So I had a small, thin slice of cake my 7 yr old daughter baked at a friend’s birthday party celebration and asked me to taste some. I then went the next 2 days eating another slice of cake. But outside of those 3 days I’ve been doing ok. 44 days so far. I have had 1-3 days with a teaspoon of sugar in my tea but thats it!
For a HUGE sugar addict like me I’d say I’ve done amazing so far!!!!
Used to be v v hard to resist dessert when I went out to eat but now its not so bad. I just equate sugar to all the damage it does and has done to my body (my autoimmune flares up and my long, thick hair just sheds like crazy)0
