I love hot yoga. I am skeptical that is burns as many calories as calculators claim, so I just enter a lower calorie burn when I do it.
The real reason I love it: It's challenging and I feel so so so incredibly relaxed afterward. It is the most peaceful thing I have found since I moved to NYC. I just love the way it makes me feel, and regular yoga doesn't have the same effect.

Also.. the hot yoga I attend does not have any of the "this is the only right way" attitude. Basically -- everyone is different, and this is *your* practice, do what you need to. We drink lots of water (and I always have a coconut water before class) and participants are encouraged to rest as their body needs to and not to force anything. The windows are open for about half of the 60-minute class, as well.
  • I just searched hot yoga and read your post- i moved to nyc a few months ago too! and i am terrified to try hot yoga/ bikram but want to SO bad! where do you go for class? we might have to have a little myfitnesspal meet up! :) theres some free/donation based ones i want to try!

I'm a huge fan of hot yoga. I've never done the bikram, the class I go to is a heated vinyasa class. I enjoy my running but hot yoga loosens & relaxes me so much. I don't care how many calories it burns, I just enjoy it. I still do regular yoga, but it doesn't compare to hot yoga as far as the way it relaxes my muscles.
