I Don't Understand!

I honestly just want to bang my head against the wall! I know I have been yoyoing with my logging in the last month, but then I finally started being a lot more consistent like 3 days ago; logging practically everything, even if it hurts. I lost 2lbs. and now, I go on my scale this morning and somehow, miraculously managed to gain back those 2lbs I lost! I know I went over last night by like 30 calories and the previous night by 100 and change, but seriously, how am I supposed to continue to feel motivated when I keep getting these results? I feel like I'm fighting a losing battle here. I see other people here with all this miraculous weight loss and I feel as though my body just hates me for some reason or refuses to cooperate. It won't let go of all this stored fat I have as though it's hanging on for its dear life and I know I'm not starving myself, so what gives? Seriously guys, I want to *cry*!

How often are you weighing yourself? My day started out not so good yesterday because I had gained about 1.6 pounds back but you have to know that you will fluctuate and that's just a part of weight loss. You may just try to look at what you are eating to make some better choices and also up your exercise. Sorry you are feeling down but keep your chin up because you have accomplished so much so far and don't let this get you down and quit this wonderful journey you are on. (((HUGS)))0

don't give up luv! Every single person on here has gone through the same thing. I took one wknd off of counting once and mon morning the scale said i gained 8 lbs!!! I was devastated, but i got back on track and it all came back off within a couple days. The true fact is, if you just keep going,even with the bumps in the road, I promise you will see results.0

Ahhh....don't cry! The simple explaination is WATER WEIGHT. To gain 2 pounds you would have had to have consumed 7000 ADDITIONAL calories.
I go up and down a couple of pounds quite regularly! And I have finally figured out that I am one person who is extremely sensitve to sodium. If you're not tracking sodium, you may want to give it a try. If I am anywhere 2000 mgs of sodium a day I will go up 1 or 2 pounds and it will take 2 days of watching my sodium really closely for it to go back down again.
It happens......so you need to just dry your tears and keep going! The scale can be a real LIAR at times, so don't depend on JUST the scale to measure success!0 -
Don't give up!!
Some tips:
1. Make sure you weigh yourself at the same time of day every time. I notice that I typically weigh less in the mornings;
2. Wear the same clothes and never weigh yourself with shoes on;
3. Make sure your scale is not on a rug or other soft surface as you will not get an accurate reading;
4. Do not weigh yourself after a workout. Although you sweat, your body retains water to hydrate you during the workout so you will typically have extra water weight post-workout.
Keep doing what you're doing and watch your salt intake --that can add those pesky 1-2 pounds!0 -
3 days isn't long enough for your body to work out that you're expecting it to lose weight now. Give it a week or two before you start throwing the scales down the stairs!
Remember that you didn't gain weight in 3 days, or even 3 weeks. You've got to be in it consistently to see those pounds coming back off. Those people with great losses? I guarantee they've had their tough weeks too, but you don't win unless you keep picking yourself back up and keeping trying.0 -
That happens to all of us.
1. Only weigh yourself Once a week...
2. Take your measurements! and log them. If you are exercising you will build muscle which weighs more than fat and will give you false "weight gain" readings as your measurements shrink.
3. Exercise is the real key... find an activity YOU enjoy doing and do it. Gardening, walking, bike riding, cleaning the house, swimming, water arobics, anything that makes you sweat and gets your heart pumping.
4. Our bodies resist loosing fat. It has stored it to protect us in times of famine, so be consistent and your body will give in and let go eventually.
MAKE BEING HEALTHY YOUR GOAL!0 -
Our daily weight normally changes by 3lbs per day... it could be water, could be TOM, lots of things. I would recommend only weighing in once a week. Or if you want to weight more.. then like Mondays and Fridays or something. But weighing yourself daily is only going to discourage you because of the natural change.0

As an 'every day scale stepper onner', I feel your pain. I want to scream when I know full well I was under calories and drank plenty of water and the scale hasn't budged or - even worse - went up.
When I have a look at the diary from the couple of days before... I am usually over on sodium... and retaining water.
Try weighing just once a week, in the morning, after you use the restroom and before you eat anything.
And remember - the goal is not to lose a pound every time you step on the scale (if you weigh every day) - the goal is somewhere between .5 to 2 pounds a WEEK.
(I am coaching myself as I type!!)
You have made great choices for your health just by starting this journey - keep it up!!0 -
I'm so glad you said this - because it happened to me too. I've been at this for a little over a month, and as of this past Wed., had lost 8.3 lbs and several inches. But today (my regular weigh in day) I had gained 1.5 lbs. I have worked out consistently, and stayed under my calories almost all week...so it doesn't "make sense", but I know mentally I'm doing the right things for my body and eventually the scales will get the hint and catch up.0

I read this & just changed my diary to show sodium.. Holy cow! I've been feeling the same way as u.. I'm going to watch my sodium & water intakes this week & see if it helps! Good luck 0

Sodium makes a huge difference in your weight day to day. But PLEASE don't simply judge your success by the number on the scale. Concentrate on the bigger picture. Are you feeling like you have more energy? More confidence? These are things that won't show up on the scale, but they are so much more important than your weight. Those changes are going to be what carries you through when the scale doesn't move very quickly.0
