I can't live without bacon! Thankfully I found some cheap uncured bacon, which is totally yummy! Measurements will be taken tomorrow. I finished off my heavy whipping cream and cheese tonight...might as well load up because I'm starting tomorrow. I went shopping, and stocked up on veggies and meat. It was really hard to not get the greek yogurt and cottage cheese....they are such easy sources of protein. Heaven help me because I'm going to need it! All this cooking might bring me to the ledge!

I breastfed both my kids, one till he was two and the other till 14 months but I didn't eat this way then so I can't really comment but I think in a situation like this you know what your body needs so make the exception but still do the rest of the challenge. It's not cheating if your baby needs it.
I would be 'in' but I am unclear if the benefits I would *certainly* reap would outweigh the cortisol created by no cheese or grass fed heavy whipping cream.

Are any experienced nursing moms able to help me figure out an alternative to what's working now?

When I don't eat 1-2 oz (0 carb) cheese at least 5 days/week, I flat out don't get enough calcium. I'm a nursing mom and, in 5 months of eating Primal/Paleo, when I quit all dairy for 3 weeks, I got run down, felt horrible and had increased inflammation/pain, lots of muscle spasms/bodyaches and trouble sleeping. I really can't say if what's working is that it's easier to get enough total daily fat or if it's that I need the Vitamin K or something else in the HWC. But I felt awful and all weight loss stopped until I added HWC back in. The cheese doesn't seem to be a daily but rather a weekly 'need'.

I realize that most of us here are not technically experts but you folk are some of my favorite teachers and researchers. I would honestly love to do this if it were possible to get 200g Calcium a day from real foods without going over 30g Carbs daily, not get ill doing it and have enough energy to sustain my life as a single mom starting her own business while doing it.

Some research that I've done since then suggests that it may be the chicory (inulin fiber) in my Coffee & Chicory which is a prebiotic that may have been helping my digestion and reducing inflammation.

I think maybe the carb load of substituting coconut milk, even the unsweetened kind also worked against me. The grass fed HWC I consume when I'm able, seems to give me more energy and better weight loss. My intake diary reflects lots of unhealthy cravings and poor food choices when I run out of it. So, I'm going to keep researching and I remain open to any knowledge you'll have that I lack. I'm still so new to all of this.

    TIA

So ladies I took my measurements today. Yesterday was my first day after the challenge so I celebrated with wine, dark chocolate and lamb bhuna. So these might not be totally accurate.

Inches lost - 7 inches. (3 on the waist)

I confess I failed day one! I had sugar ( natural) in my coffee( hanging head in shame) and ..I stepped on the scale this morning..really wish I hadn't..not the news I wanted to see..:grumble: I am starting to put CO in my coffee again and I really can't get it down like that without some type of sweetener... I know stevia is not allowed, though I am confused as to why, but it has to be better than sugar right??? and well the scale is going in my closet right now- I am ready not to see that jerk for a while!

It sounds like you need Vitamin D and not necessarily calcium and you need magnesium.

I failed also. I got soooo hungry at work that I ate a small container of Fage with my apple. And I know we aren't supposed to weigh for 30 days. but I did this morning and I was down 1.6 pounds.

So maybe we can ammend our Whole 30 to allow for some limited dairy......................what say you all????

My first day was hard! All I want is heavy whipping cream and stevia for my berries and dark chocolate...this is going to be rough!

On a funner note, I went hiking today and ran across some climbers. I haven't been climbing in 10 years! I'm really embarrassed of my weight, so I have put off climbing until I lose weight. So, no more excuses! Next summer I WILL be climbing again.

    How's everybody's day been going?

I am currently scheduled for annual labs, will be rechecking Vitamin D3. Currently taking 100,000 IU twice weekly with large meals and digestive supplements. Hoping my D3 levels will be up, we'll see. As for magnesium, have some, can add it in and see if it helps. Thanks for your thoughts.

Limited dairy would be alright with me. I've had a massive headache since I started, and I am wondering if it no caffeine, no sugar, or not enough fat related. Usually I can eat more fat and my headaches go away, but no matter what I eat it won't go away. I haven't bee in ketosis for a couple months, so I wonder if it is just my body switching over to fat burning with the decrease in carbs. I'm drinking enough water, Has anyone else experienced this? I didn't have this problem when I first went strict primal, so I'm not sure what to do.

Hey all, I need to find a way to destress..................My life is sooo stressful that my weight loss is at a stand still and my hormones are getting way out of whack - producing some bi-polar symptoms (especially insomnia and manic type energy). I am literally sleeping like 2 hours a night and bouncing off the walls...............

I am working as a temp trying to get hired on with the company I am working for permanently and will result in relocating........

My husband lost his job due to loss of contracts, so I am the sole bread winner working a temp job and a part time job

Trying to finish classes to get these computer certifications to be able to build my resume more and get better jobs

Going home and cooking, cleaning, doing laundry after being at work for 10 or 11 hours a day.

Making sure my dogs still get proper exercise.

Boosting my husbands moral because he is sinking into depression..............

I don't know how much more I can take on before I crack!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was doing super good until yesterday when we had a birthday party with Costco cream cheese danishes...I lost all control. Then today, somebody brought pumpkin chocolate chip cookies into work. I feel like crap today. A sore throat sprung up last night, along with headaches, and body aches today. Will I ever learn???

    Eventually.................

I had cake today too. It was a home made cake and surprisingly it didn't make me feel bad. I am wondering if it was because it was home made from scratch and not from a bakery deli or a box mix.

Whoa! And I thought my week was rough. Hun, you can only do what you can do. You cannot heal anyone of depression, only he can heal himself. Sleep when you can, breathe when you can't. Hope things ease up for you soon. Big, big hugs! Don't worry if food isn't perfect, just keep swimming.

    This week in review:

Sunday - missed church, day at beach with friends. Went clothes shopping due to nothing fits me. Weight has plateaued for 2 months but I've lost a pant size and then some.

Monday - cart all laundry to friends apt due to broken washer at home. Sprinting turns what would've been a low burn day into a WOW!

Tuesday - training with Jen, my coach, turns into a tearful flood of emotions over being deprived of phone, computer and car just when I am trying to start a new business. Car was totaled, phone stolen and computer has been broken for awhile.

Wednesday - Daughter receives over 60% reduction in tuition to attend Mandarin Chinese immersion preschool. We spend 5 hours round trip bussing/hiking to get her to 4 hours of class. I get great cal. burn trying to figure out what to do to change our finances.

Thursday - Getting carbs slowly back down toward ketosis. Rest day.

Friday - 5 hours bussing, 2 to get Kidling to Chinese lessons, 1 to get copy of her birth certificate for school, 2 more hours after retrieving daughter to get home. Burned 1156 over my rate for a rest day. Dancing with daughter after splittng a rottiserie chicken was a nice end to a stressful, hectic week. She reports loving school and wants more. She is only 5 and her intake today - a can of sardines, 4 boiled eggs, a nectarine, a carrot, 2 complete chicken breasts incl. skin and fatty bits from a large-ish rotisserie chicken. She ate twice her body weight in grams of protein. Moms, can we say 'growth spurt cometh'? LOL

OK....so I guess there is a reason why I'm primal and NOT Paleo!!! LOL
Fell off the wagon before my seat was WARM!!! Went out for dinner on like day 4...sushi how much damage could I do? Two words Chicken Nabeyaki!! Miso and rice noodles and teriyaki sauce...OH MY!!!
The cream in my coffee was a deal breaker....just couldnt give it up. The honey in my tea......well, lets say I only have 1 cup instead of two and the honey is so I take care of my sweet tooth before eating an entire frozen chocolate bunny from easter!!!!
    OMG!!!!!.........i'm so weak:sad:

On a positive note...I've been keeping up with exercise, went hiking in the forest with the dogs and husband (FUN!!) and have been making better food choices for me!! Thinking about doing the 30 day challenge on Mark's daily apple/Primal Blueprint site....a chance at a do-over!!
    Keep on keepin on Peeps!!!!

So last night I went to a bonfire at a friends house. One of the residents, who is severely overweight, was talking about how she had already been to the gym for 2 hours that day, and was thinking of going back for another hour to get in more cardio. She said she had recently lost weight, but then put back on 10 lbs over the course of 2 months She mentioned that she had been really busy with her photography business and had only eaten 1000 in the last 2 DAYS! Apparently she told her personal trainer her caloric intake. She then proceeds to tell us she won't be able to eat tomorrow (today) because she was shooting a wedding. Because of her large calorie deficit, the trainer recommended that she eat 2 BIG slices of CAKE!!! *face palm*

I nearly bit through my tongue trying not to say anything. No wonder do many people are obese!!! They get crappy advice from crappy personal trainers. Then it is reinforced by crappy dietitians and crappy doctors.

Long story short, I am glad I finally decided to challenge conventional wisdom and dive into the actual science of this stuff. I am so thankful that i have the peace of mind that I will be able to lose the weight, keep it off, and avoid the disease of modern society. This is my motivation to keep up with this lifestyle.

What motivates everyone else??? I would like to hear other people's successes and why they stick with it.

Please confess your mistakes on your wall, and posts your help questions and achievements here. Constantly posting your failings is NOT supportive.

anyway, been doing nuts and fruit for breakfast with tea. Love it.
    Nut scones:
soak pecans/almonds and 3 dates over night, drain. In a food processer grind up some warm (frozen) cherries. Set aside
Grind up the drained nuts and the dates, mix the fruit and nuts together to make a dough.
Roll out onto a cookie sheet, wax paper underneath the dough. Bake on low heat for 3 hours to dehydrate.
This will come out as a moist, but firm bar. Cut out pieces 4X2" and store in the fridge.
Grab a piece in the morning as part of your breakfast! Yummy.

I've added a touch of milk or yogurt too, and mixed them up in the bottom of a large cup to make a nut cereal.

Rach.... Yeah, as a personal trainer and fitness coach I cringe when I hear about anyone who doesn't educate their clients about being healthy and eating right. *shakes head* I stay motivated by being positive, and surrounding myself with postivity as much as possible. That is keyl

Many people are stuck in a rut that they will eat, then exercise it off. Wrong. And there is no such thing as a reward if someone is seriously creating a good habit and destroying the old bad habits. I remind everyone I train that a habit is nothing more than having the discipline to change an action, mood, or behaivor. Discipline! That takes a good solid positive attitude and encouraging peers to keep the fortitude going.

Having discipline, and surrounding myself with positive energy helps so much. I don't care if I have to pay to have that kind of energy around me, it's so important! I, luckily, get it for free with funny friends, and awesome MFP peers like the wonderful lady who started this group! Stay strong my friends, and you can always make the right choice you have to for a better you!!! It's a war, I'm in to win.

This is so true. I am motivated by wanting to be a better and healthier person, inside and out. To be honest, I did not like or admire the person I was becoming, and I wanted to do something about it. Changing my eating habits has gotten the ball rolling. I had previously felt like I was in control of nothing, but by taking charge of my diet and health, I'm now realizing that I have the power to change and control more aspects of my life.

Plus, I have PCOS and Paleo is the only lifestyle that has really worked for me. Before I was able to drop a few pounds here and there with calorie restriction, but I never had any sort of major success. I dropped 10 pounds during my first 30 days of Paleo (this is my 2nd 30 days...too much cheating the first time around). Some of my symptoms seem to have improved, too. This just feels right for my body. My energy levels are up (used to have terrible crashes) and my outlook has even improved.

I know it seems really tempting to cheat, but I've found that almost nothing is worth it. Of course, I will still have something on a really special occasion (birthday, anniversary, etc.), but I feel so much better when I eat Paleo quite strictly. I've come to realize that all those foods I thought were amazing before don't taste as good anymore. When I first read about Paleo, I literally laughed out loud when I saw the 'no grains' part. But then I gave it a shot and it really worked. Certain things seemed really hard to give up at first, but it turned out to be pretty easy (and totally worth) giving them up.
