Yesterday was gross

We all have them. Those days where it seems everything works against you. Yesterday was one of those days. I can’t say anything “really” terrible happened, I was just cranky and out of sorts.

It’s important I point out I am about 2-4 days from starting my period, so I’m PMS-ing HUGE; I am aware and understand this was a major contributor to my mood.

With that being said, it didn’t stop me from being a sad sack. I drank almost an entire bottle of wine (after being dry ((with exception of 1 day)) for the last 3 weeks), ate a cupcake, WAY too many of those chalky conversation hearts and generally exceeded my maintenance calories by a few hundred.

Lesson 1- I’m learning my triggers. I was overtired, unprepared for a healthy lunch and brought things in my house I normally don’t eat. I was also in a foul mood. PMS is real and has increased with age for me (42). Or perhaps I’m simply more aware.

Lesson 2- while I’m up a few pounds this morning, I know it’s not a fat gain. It’s water retention from stuffing my little face with whatever I wanted. While I definitely didn’t eat at a deficit, I didn’t eat enough to undo all the good I’ve done.

Lesson 3- I’m back this morning, not giving up and not quitting.

Each new day gives us a fresh opportunity. Happy Saturday all.

Deep breath. Drink a glass of water.
Relax we all have days over. The key thing is to pick yourself up and keep going. Nobody expects you to never again have a day over calories but you can't let it slide into day 2 3 4 ect.
So drink an extra glass of water and be kind to yourself

Just like one little mistake doesn’t define an entire person and all the good they’ve done in their life, the same applies to health. You are not bad or did anything wrong because you had a day of indulgence. You caught yourself and that’s what counts. Good job! Now get back on track and keep looking ahead and be proud of all the work you’re doing.

Thanks everyone! I am right back on track today. This is just a good place to vent as I know many people can sympathize and have been there. I appreciate you letting me do so.

Awww, you're right. You're going to be OK. Sometimes those crash landings are necessary. It's a reality check that this is for life. And there are so many more unhealthy ways to cope than what you did. We've all got your back. We've all been there. Your post made me want to reach out and give you a huge cyberhug

    That's the right attitude.

Emotional over-reaction to one off-goal day is more destructive, more often, than one off goal day, which tends to be a minor blip, if left behind in the rear-view mirror as one gets back on a healthy track.

    Good show!

Assuming you have the right attitude, and you do, I think a day like that can actually be helpful. I find it a source of relief to know that I can pass through a day like that and nothing bad will happen. Sure the scale will bump for a few days or maybe even a week but it will come back down.

I'm right there with you and I can't even look back and understand the reasons why. But you sound like you've mastered the art of 'back at it' and that's the most important attack for an off day!!
I don't beat myself up anymore for a day here and there, or even a week(Christmas-shudder)but getting back into our regular routine is the best thing we can do!

After my huge fall-out Friday, I've decided to allow myself 1 day a month, to eat foods that I feel I'm depriving myself of. Giving myself permission to do it, gives me a sense of freedom and won't create the feelings that I get from a day of overeating. As much as I know I shouldn't harbor any guilt, a little bit of me still whispers 'now why on earth did you go and do such a stupid thing?'

Glad you've recovered from your day!!

Thank you! It sounds like you’ve made a solid plan for yourself. But I agree, it can sometimes mess with your mind. You KNOW you haven’t “ruined” things, but it’s easy to feel guilty.

I have another obstacle today as my aunt is hosting a party for my dads 70th birthday. I’ll be somewhat diligent, but still enjoy myself.
