Hi, 45 M here from the middle of nowhere Kansas. I am a former and future runner. I used to do long distances, but then life got in the way: divorce, depression, work, a decade of other priorities, and here I am having a little midlife crisis after weighing in at 290 lbs. So, the way I figure it, I have about 100 lbs to lose to get back into prime running shape. (In 2010, I ran my fastest marathon at 187 lbs).

Right now, I'm trying to take it slowly. I've been mostly sedentary for quite awhile, so getting in 10 min on an elliptical plus 5 min warmup/cooldown without having a heart attack feels like a podium finish. I don't think it would even be a good idea to run right now, at my weight, I could very easily end up with stress fractures, etc. and the last thing I need is a setback.

Looking forward to making some friends here and finding the motivation to soldier on when the hard days hit.

I too, am from the *kitten* end of nowhere, but as you can tell from my use of the word "*kitten*" I am in the UK and I bet you have nicer weather in Kansas. Think you are right about the running, but you could do some stiff walking.
