What the heck is wrong with me?

Since I started working out I'm waking up a lot earlier than normal (5 am on the dot, whether I get 7 or 5 hours rest).I don't even need an alarm clock. I just wake up on my own. Is there something going on with my body?

  • I did the same thing. I think that when you start exercising and eating right your metabolism works faster and you also require less sleep so your body is waking up after its rested so you can eat and start moving!

I've found that working out consistently and living a healthier lifestyle improves your quality of sleep. You sleep deeper and you just more refreshed. At least that's been my experience. :) I also wake up before my alarms, feeling energized.

Are you sleeping better, or is your experience a bad one?

I'm like an energizer bunny the moment I wake up, it's crazy. I'm up before anyone else. Just found it weird, because I'm usually the last person to wake up in our household. I remember sleeping through my alarms so many times.

Yeah the same happened to me too, but mine changed pretty drastically. I would go to bed at any random time and always seem to sleep in till really late. Then I started MFP and exercising and now wake up at the same time everyday without an alarm regardless of what time I go to sleep. Pretty weird, but in a good way :D
  • that means that u're becoming healthier :) same thing is happening to me !
  • Seems to be a consensus! I always had to get up rather early because of having to get the kids up and out. But I would get them up and try to get another 30 min. in while the piddled about and ate breakfast. But for the past 2 weeks, I've been waking up 20 minutes before my alarm and feeling like I can leap tall buildings in a single bound. Very strange for me and my whole family. I also notice that I'm making myself go to bed at a more reasonable hour, too.
  • Nothing wrong at all!!

That is a good thing, when you start eating healthier and exercising on a normal schedule, your sleeping schedule also becomes more regulated. I wake up at 6 am every day and I'm ready to go!

I like sleeping in, but I have to seriously try pretty hard to sleep in past 7 on weekends.

I do that...I've been working out in the mornings (5:30/6 AM) consistently on weekdays for 10 months now. I get up before my alarm. Although it could be because my boyfriend is already up getting ready for work! Somedays I sleep til my alarm goes off, but its rare. I actually don't like doing that because I feel like I didn't get up peacefully. I HATE alarm clocks!!! I like waking up slowly on my own before the alarm clock goes off, and I can turn it off before it starts making its obnoxious noise.

Probably nothing wrong with you. I wake up earlier too, although not 5am!
  • I think I've been doing the same thing kind of, but my cat also jumps on me really early and meows in my face because he is hungry....but I do it when he doesn't do that too!

yes, you are getting healthier and you feel good! I am the worst sleep in there ever was. I have insomnia. If I don't work out i go to bed at 1 or 2 am and get up at 11 or 12. If I workout regulary I am in bed by 11pm at the latest(unless its a night out) and up by 8am at the latest. I like it!
