Treadmill Shopping- Help?

I'm looking into buying myself a treadmill but have no idea what I should look for. I need a treadmill that will be good for long distance running (my longest distance was 9 miles, but have marathon goals in mind). It also has to have some kind of interval training option on it. Incline will also be necessary
I've looked around a bit and am seeing treadmills with/without fans...different horse power motors. And I have no idea what it all means lol. Any suggestions would be great!

I"m in the same boat. My treadmill died so I'm looking for a new one. For me it has to be able to fold up and stand up against a wall and out of the way. Fan doesn't matter for me because they don't really do much anyway. I just turn on my ceiling fan if I need a fan. I would love to have one that will incline without having to get off the machine and adjust the legs like my last machine.

Woodway. They are hands down, the best treadmill I've ever used. I love them. They're kind of pricey, but completely worth it. If I wasn't living in an apartment, I'd definitely invest in one.

I take it they are larger treadmills? lol I also live in an apartment. We do have a very large bedroom though.
  • I would check out http://www.treadmillreviewguru.com or http://www.treadmilldoctor.com. At least to get a feel for the different brands, then you can decide what you want from there! Woodway is an awesome brand but they are extremely expensive. More than I would ever be willing to spend! My treadmill is a Nordictrack and I haven't ever had any problems with it!

Thanks for this thread! I am thinking of buying a treadmill as well. I think I may have found one and for anyone here who is very budget minded and may live in a small place

I just posted on FB asking all my "friends" about it, as I don't know much about them so I'll be researching in the next few weeks. It's my present to myself this year. Last year was the laptop and the year before a camcorder, lol

It has pretty favourable reviews, I read thru the first 10 and only one gave it one star but my guess is it was broken, not just a peiece of junk.

I'll post back w/ any research that I may find along the way.

Treadmills for that kind of running just seemed to pricey. I just use the road or a gym when I have a membership.

@Billsica: the road doens't work if it's snowing/raining/cold/icy. The gym doesn't work if you don't have a car and don't live in a city.

Sometimes a treadmill is the best option. We were very lucky here on long island and it was in the 40's and 50's all week so I was able to go out, but it's raining/sleeting/ right now and it's going to be icy tomrrow morning. No going out for me. If it snows I won't be able to go out until the snow is gone. With a treadmill I can walk/jog any time I want. And I'll do it A LOT MORE!

Because it'll be in front of the tv! LOL

    ^ These sites

    We bought a Nordictrack c900-pro.
We were looking for something for running (my husband) and incline/intervals for me.

Could have gone up a model and had it with iFit.....but we didn't.

If you plan on running on it, don't cheap out on a treadmill. At least that was my take away from the review sites.

I agree, the ones I see that can actually take abuse from running are upwards of $900. So I just don't run in the rain and freeze my butt off in the snow. If the $300 would work for running then I'd really re-evaluate my position.

What if you're a beginner runner, say starting the C25K program? I do plan on going back outside once it warms up again, but would like something for the winter if I"m going to lose 30lbs by april

If you're looking at treadmills, go to those review sites. They both give good (and I'd say fair and balanced) reviews. I used those sites when picking my treadmill.

I wanted a treadmill so I just cruised Ebay and Gumtree (Aussie version of Craigslist) to get an idea of prices.

Lots of people have treadmills at home that they NEVER use, occassionally they come up for sale after a clean up. (yay for us)

I ended up with a simple one for $150 - I have used it nearly every day, I did C25K on it and I walk while I watch TV all the time.

I have had it for just over 1 year, and now that I know it fits my lifestyle I could justify spending real money of a state of the art one - I could.

I will wait until mine conks out (from overuse) and then maybe upgrade.

So I recommend a 2nd hand one to start with and use that to figure out if you will use it often enough to justify the cost of going for a more fancy model.
  • I just bought a treadmill 5 weeks ago..I looked for 2 months before deciding..I bought a Freemotion incline/decline mountain climber treadmill..Freemotion treadmills are used in gyms. The one I bought is a smaller version then those but still very good..Incline goes up to 40% and it declines 3%. 10 mph max. Those high inclines really get your heart beating..A great workout for sure. I bought it at FitnessBlowout.com Shipping was free and there were no taxes. Check it out...

I agree. Look for a gently used model in your price range. I just picked up a Horizon ct83 and am very happy for it. Granted it's only the first week but I'm doing two walks a day and noticing a difference in the speed I can walk and how long I can go for.

Now I need to post to find someone who can help me program a custom setup to get my goal of 1.5 miles in 35 minutes including warm up and cool down. :-)

    Good hunting!
    Susan

In your scenario, if you want to workout at home and you small space, you can buy Under Desk Treadmill or else if you are looking for cheaper options. Check out Manual Treadmills. You can find more in this site https://bestunderdesktreadmill.com/

It's been 7 years. I really hope if she wanted a treadmill she's already bought one.
