My favorite ice cream is in a 500 ml tub and weight indicated is 436 gr.

So no, 1gr does not equal 1ml! And I think this will vary from one ice-cream to another, depending on the composition.

ahhh, thanks! didn’t know it was only water, so if i was to weigh 50ml out on scales i’d just need to change it to ml on the scale and it would be accurate?

No. Ml cannot be determined by weighing something, unless the something has the exact same density as water. Ml is a volume measure, not a weight measure. Weighing in ml is comparable to weighing in cm: It doesn't make sense.

Manufacturers put ml as an option on scales, but don't tell you it won't be accurate for many common substances. You can find conversion tables online to convert from ml to g (or vice-versa) that are specific to substances (i.e., how many ml of olive oil equates to how many grams of olive oil), but there's no way to convert without considering the density of the substance being measured.

It's not that simple. For the sake of the ice cream above, weigh your serving in grams and enter that in your food diary.
