I joined this sight a week ago and I have lost 2 lbs. I am very happy about the weight loss, but I have concerns about the lack of energy I have. Is this normal when you begin a diet that consists of only 1200 calories?

lots of questions re: type of food you are eating..exercise?

but in general..one week and some changes and your body is adapting to something new so it may be conserving just in case...
give it some time...eat good stuff..drink clean water...see how that goes for afew more days

I exercised for about 45 minutes last week. Will increased exercise provide me more energy even though I feel like I am too tired to exercise.

A big thing you need to remember is to log in your exercise and EAT YOUR EXERCISE CALORIES.
It's very important. If you've been exercising during the day and not logging it and eating the extra calories, the low energy could be because of that. Even if you don't "work out", it's important to log if you do heavy cleaning around the house for an hour, or if you walk around the mall for an hour or two, etc. If you're burning even 100 extra calories with it, you'd be making a difference especially since you are at the bare minimum before your body would go into starvation mode.

Also you may want to re-evaluate what you're eating. It needs to have good nutritional value and etc. For example, if you were just eating 2 mcdonalds burgers and some fries for the day, you would have waaaay less energy than if you had rice, lots of vegetables, yogurt, cereal, chicken or fish, etc throughout the day.

Hope that helped. :) If you're eating well and logging and eating exercise calories but still feeling way too tired after your body has had a chance to get used to the new diet.... I'd say try raising your calorie goals to 1400 and see if your body has more energy.

    Good luck!

Like Dave, I have questions. Did you make big changes in your eating habits, like giving up processed sugar or caffiiene? If you did, expect your body to take some time. When I gave up processed sugar, my legs felt like lead for several days. How much of an adjustment down in calories is the 1200 calorie daily limit for you? Do you spread your meals out, eating 3 regular meals and a couple of snacks, or 4-5 mini meals during the course of the day? Are you taking a good quality vitamin? Having trouble sleeping? (The first week or so, its not uncommon to have trouble sleeping.) If you have ANY health concerns, or a significant amount to lose, did you consult your doc before starting? Those are just some things to think about. Also, one thing I have heard a lot on this site is making sure you eat your exercise calories. Good luck!!

I agree, you need to find low calorie healthy foods you actually like and will enjoy eating. Certain foods will provide you with more energy. Proper rest/sleep is an issue as well. stick with it!!
