50 lbs, no difference

I'm really defeated right now.I'm 6'1 and started at 331 lbs.. now 287.2. I see absolutely zero difference in my starting and current picture I am also in the same size pants and still too big to go down a size. sigh When did you guys start to notice?

50 Lbs is amazing.
Do you feel better? I bet you do. Also I bet others can see the difference.3 -
I dropped from 360 to 250 since last May. I did not see a difference at all for the first 50 either but I definitely see it now. It'll come. Stick with it.5

This may be partly about the seeing (cognitive) rather than the being.
While I was losing weight, I couldn't see much change in myself, even in photos. Now, after being at maintenance weight for a few years, I look back at those same photos and see major differences.
I'm not the only one here I've seen say something like this. I think we look in the mirror and just see "me", with the same perceptual filters and assumptions we've always had about ourselves. It took time to adjust, and see the change.
I guarantee there's been change, for you, at 50 pounds down, even if you don't see it yet.
It takes more pounds to drop a size when larger, than it will as you get smaller. It's a little like taking apart a big onion, layer by layer: The outside layers don't seem to change the onion's overall size very much, but each subsequent layer makes a bigger percentage difference.
Hang in there: You're making excellent progress. Try to be motivated by those good numbers; by any NSVs (non scale victories) that may happen - things that get easier to do, for example; and by your mastery over your own habits. Patience is rewarded!

You are probably losing it from places that you can't see clearly. I am down 20 pounds and my waist is exactly the same size. I was feeling defeated but a few days ago I put on a robe that previously the arms felt tight, and now they feel looser. My wedding ring is also looser. So while that doesn't mean I am down a clothing size, I realize that the fat has gone from other areas of my body. The rest is sure to follow.3

First place I noticed it was my face. And if I’m recalling correctly, at the time, I didn’t consider it an improvement.1

I have gone from 307 to 160s, and the biggest difference I *felt* was from 307 to 270. The biggest difference I SAW was from around 260 to 220. The biggest difference others saw was from around 260 to 220.
With my first 50 lb, I wore most of the same clothes and didn't see a lot of difference. But looking back it was by far the hardest and best part of my entire weight loss and definitely made the most difference in how I felt and moved around in the world. Hopefully you will not get too discouraged and keep at it!9 -

This. I lost from my (almost non-existent) butt, thighs, and back first. Add to it myscle development between work and walking and yeah, it took a while to start seeing the changes. Find a photo of yourself pre-loss and tape it to the mirror. Guaranteed you’ll see the change! 🙂0 -
Clothing is weird for some of us. I would often go many pounds between downsizing and then I would drop a size and by the time I accumulated enough clothing for that size I would turn around and drop another. It was one of those good problems to have in some ways and SUPER annoying in others.
The first place I noticed weight loss was my feet.
50 pounds is amazing. You can move around a little easier. You have taken stress of your joints (your knees are thanking you) and you have decreased some of your risk. If you were having any weight related health issues they should be improved too.3 -
It’s very possible you are losing some visceral fat. This is fat that accumulates around your organs, it’s actually the most dangerous kind of fat to have, and while losing it means a lot for your health it’s not as noticeable in the mirror. Keep up the good work, eventually you will see the difference!!5

I’ve been maintaining quite awhile. Something I find is I’m constantly finding new angles in weight loss and fitness even though I’m at goal weight.
So this morning I was thinking about my posture. Something I’ve been working on. I think I still practice mostly fat posture. But I take a Tai Chi class. The room has mirrors. Lately I look at myself and see tall and lanky. Before I was always seeing dumpy and awkward. I’ve been at goal weight 10+ years.
What’s changed? My posture. Working on my posture. Give it a look.5 -
