Hello, I’ve gone over my calories by 100-500 T-Su this week. It was my child’s birthday and I indulged in dinner out, cake, etc. Now my city’s in COVID social distancing “lockdown” and I think the stress of that is getting to me. Too many impulsive comfort choices. Would like to get back on track this coming week. Not working from home yet, but will be required to do so next week. Thoughts? Thank you 🙏🏻

First thought is just to simply forgive yourself you're human, you won't be perfect 100% of the time
Just pick back up tomorrow. Each day is a fresh start. In fact, each moment can be a fresh start.
If you're trying to actively socially distance yourself, maybe think of some hobbies that you can do if you find yourself wanting to eat out of boredom or stress. Reading, painting, take a walk, find some craft you like, even cleaning as a distraction.
What I do sometimes, especially at work, is to plan my food out for the day and "ration" it. Like, I'll have breakfast at work, then set a specific time for a snack, and a specific time for the next meal, etc. It helps me not to eat everything right away out of boredom because I can look at my list and think, "Only 1 more hour, I've got this."0 -
TY Brittany. Social distancing is mandatory, thanks for the distraction tip. I will make a schedule for eating at home, too, since I’m now going to be working from home & wont have work as a distraction0

It sounds like you went 100-500 over your goal? If you're set to lose 1lb. per week, you haven't even gone over maintenance. (: I think of maintenance like progress since it is practice for the future.2

Hi Rel... yes 100-500 per day. I was feeling so overly hungry & impulsively snacking!0

Like Rel said, you'll probably still lose for the week, just a little more slowly (though it may not look like it on the scale, as comfort food is often a bit more carbs/sodium than usual, so maybe a bit more water retention than usual, too, so it may falsely look like a weight increase).
As far as stress/anxiety eating, consider what other stress management options work for you personally. (Walk, stretching, hot herb tea, meditation, music, aromatherapy bubble bath. . . ?) Make a list, mental or physical. When the urge to snack arises, do one of those things for a few minutes, and see how that affects your perceived hunger.
As far as changes from being at home, pretty much aggree with Brittany: Intentionally make a plan, maybe even a schedule. Your routine is getting a kick in the teeth, so work on creating a new one for the new circumstances, one that supports your goals.
None of us is perfect, and it can take a little time to handle a big change, but stick with it - just don't give up - keep chipping away, and you'll make it work.2 -
Hi Flynn, Boston. Yep, gyms & yoga studios closed. Restaurants doing take out but no seating or lines more than 10 people. Grocery stores have shorter hours & special early AM hours for seniors. People are out walking, but need to stay 6’ apart, so that’s a challenge.0
