Is it just jogging and running? What if I jog AND walked because I couldnt keep myself jogging and had to walk and jog?

I'd say running at a slow pace ;)
  • I have the same issue. What I have done is look at the time it took me to complete the route. Then I look at what is already entered in the exercise choices. For instance, if it took me 30 minutes at the rate of walking/jogging at 3.5 mph, then I enter 30 minutes of "walking at 3.5 mph." Lately I have been able to complete the route at a rate of 4.0 mph, but I am still walking part of the way. Even so, I enter 30 minutes of "walking at 4.0 mph." I am looking forward to completing my route in time to start entering my exercise in the "jogging" category. If someone has a better idea, I am definitely game.

If you know how long you were jogging/walking and the distance you jogged/walked you can average it by figuring out your miles per hour. Google a MPH calculator such as this one... http://www.arkansasrunner.com/calculators/mileperhr.htm then you can enter it as either walking, jogging or running at what ever MPH.

I have been using the "Jogging in place" option. Although I don't jog fast enough to count as 5mph, I do burn more calories than I would just walking, so I think the jogging in place is pretty accurate.

If you'll be running a lot, you should get a HRM or a jogging calculator, like the ones Nike makes for the iPod. I have the Nike+ sportband, which is a watch that has a sensor in my shoe. It tells me how fast I go, so I can accurately calculate the burn.

    GL!
  • If you have a smartphone download the Runkeeper ap. It will keep track for you of how fast you go. I most recently was falling right inbetween 3.0 and 3.5 miles per hour with my running and walking at 18.5 minutes per mile. So I would do half the time I was out at 3.0 and half at 3.5. There is probably a better way to do it, but that worked for me. Runkeeper will also give you an estimated calories burned, keep track our your route and accumulate data for you so you can see your progress. I kinda love it.

I agree with using a tracker like Runkeeper (or timing your run/walk and knowing the distance works as well) to get your average pace and thereby, you can pick the best fit. :)
  • Thanks for the suggestions! :)
