Greetings all!

I just completed my profile and am very excited to explore the tools provided here on myfitnesspal. I was invited by a friend and former housemate, so I am looking forward to being her cheerleader as much as she is looking forward to being mine.

Just to sum it up: I am a soon-to-be 38-year-old unemployed single mother. I cringe at the thought, but that is what I am, in a nutshell. Oh, and did I mention I have about 70 lbs left to lose?

I have experienced a major life change last year (long-term relationship dissolved unexpectedly) and I am still very much in transition. I have come a LONG way just to get where I am at now, which is FAR from where I want to be. However, as cliched as it sounds, things do happen for a reason. I am finally beginning to come around and realize that in spite of the adversity each of us face in our lives, it is important not to forget or overlook the good things that still exist and occur on a daily basis. If anything, my experience last year taught me never to take people for granted; we are not in control as much as we like to think we are, and things can always be worse.

With all that, I really want to get back on track and get over this "weight loss limbo" I am in. Last year, I went from 250 lbs to 180. I didn't quite lose it the "right way". Most of the weight loss I attribute to smoking cigarettes, a habit I picked up again last year to help me cope with the enormous amount of stress I was under. Three months ago, I decided to kick the habit (again). To my dismay, I almost immediately gained back nearly 20 lbs! Needless to say, I am very frustrated, but far from giving up. I faltered, but it's never too late.

Anybody care to share their stories/struggles with me?

Peace,

C.

Good luck. I have lost nearly 65 (70 is the goal). I also quit smoking during the process. Excercise.... Helps with the weight loss of course, but the nicotine cravings too.
  • Thanks for taking the time to read my post and for your feedback. My preferred workouts is on my treadmill, for 30 mins. Also, since I currently have no car, I am forced to have to use public transportation, which involves a lot of walking. Honestly, the lack of car, in combination with the cigarettes, is what I believe propelled my initial weight-loss. I experienced a weight-loss plateau around March/April, then when I quit smoking in June, the weight started creeping back again, arrrghhh! There are a couple of issues I need to address: Firstly, I need to get back on a regular routine. My workouts have been extremely sporadic lately. Secondly, I need to start keeping a food log again. That is another tool I used last year that helped me enormously to keep track of everything that I was eating and held me accountable. Can't believe I resisted the food log for so long, when I found it to be so highly effective.
