How bad is white bread?

The wraps I use for my lunch are white bread wraps (not tortilla - Warburtons square-ish wraps) and have 25/carbs... I come in under my carb goal every day, so am I OK with them? :)

I think the issue is that white bread is a super refined carb. If you eat whole grain breads / wraps, you're getting more fiber and grains, which are better for your body.
  • I see no problem with one item for the day not fully loaded with carbs. I eat a small amount and it doesn't make or break me. Its when you have a half pound of pasta for lunch. Then you should worry.

If you can try out multigrain wraps. They help fill the fiber gap and taste pretty good

Sadly they don't make the type of wraps I use in multigrain...

For me, white bread is very good.

    But each to their own...

Here is the thing that MANY people on this forum seem to forget:

When you eat white bread that is mixed with other things (such as in the wrap you're eating) you're getting fiber, protein, vitamins, minerals, fats, etc and the refined properties of the white bread are COMPLETELY changed compared to if you were just eating it by itself.

In other words, the wrap is fine with white bread. It's not going to push your insulin over the edge and cause you to go into diabetic coma. Just make sure you're getting enough fiber during the day and enjoy your food.

Not the end of the world but try and minimize flour-based carbs.
  • Consuming white bread on a daily basis also keeps your body addicted to the refined 'empty calorie' carbs...why not switch to a more healthy alternative?

Are you saying they put drugs into white bread to make you addicted?

Agree. White flour is one step up from sugar. Figure how many calories in a teaspoon of sugar and then how many does that equal in white bread calories. It's been said that" white flour and sugar go down through your blood vessels like broken glass, chipping away at the lining." That was enough to make white bread the occasional exception and not the rule. Although also agree that eating it with protein and fat may minimize the insulin production it is likely to induce.

I try my hardest to avoid eating white bread, just because of the mass amounts of carbs and in some cases calories.
I was going to have a slice of white bread with my boiled egg today (check my food diary) but I felt too bad, and just had the egg.
