New documentary. I watched it today and thought some people on this website might also find it interesting.

I do not know if I believe that the leptin and "metabolic rate" stays lower though.

Give us the overall point- we’ll decide.

    Just saw it.

A lot of interesting "facts" but no clear answers as far as wt loss is concerned.

I watched it. It was interesting but like above poster said “ no clear answers.”

I think the bottom line of the documentary is to watch your calorie intake and exercise is for health.

    The overall point—
Sometimes people don’t fit the norm. There can be reasons why it’s not as simple for everyone as it is for most of us.

At least that’s what I got out of it.

While I agree it may be harder for others, still, a big factor for many is making excuses and being gluttonous. (I was one of those for 16 years)

I dont really need to watch it. Yes, fat is an endocrine organ. The amount of leptin in the blood does signal the brain a fed state. As far as metabolic rate lowering, we have evidence from Libeil's lab that confirms it out to a year. As far as weight loss and set points. I dont think one can "reset" the lipostat, but one might be able to make the brain more comfortable at a lower body fat level. We have seen it in mice, monkeys, and humans in a roundabout way. What we have seen in ad librium eating studies where obese rats and monkeys were switched to a whole foods lower energy dense diet is, they lose large amounts of weight and maintain it. As long as they mostly remain on the diet, the weight stays off. They never get as lean as non obese controls, but loose large amounts. They also maintain that "slightly" higher weight with little difference in calorie intake from the controls. This might indicate the "slowed/adapted" metabolic rate. I will with this later. Thanks for the post.

Ok, I watched the nova special. Basically, see above. Now, they did mention that the Hadza burned only ad much energy as a Simi sedentary westerner. Well, maybe. What we do have is evidence that higher activity levels helps people control their energy intake. Basically matching expenditures with intake.Otherwise, my above is a basic breakdown.
