I've been type 2 for 10 yrs and until recently have been the same weight, okay not an ideal weight but always the same. Due to my blood glucose levels being very high my gp has tried various medications and the one which is working at bringing down my glucose levels is making me gain weight, I have gained 14lb in about 8weeks and am not happy. I spoke to my gp who said he would rather I gained 14lb and had lower glucose levels than stayed the same weight with high glucose levels which didn't really help. If anyone has any ideas I'm more than willing to try.
Thanks.

I'd have to know what you are eating to give any advice. I was diagnosed 5 years ago but control it with diet and exercise (sometimes better than others) and refused to take any meds.
  • i know several people that have had type 2 diabetes, drank shakeology & no longer have it.

My mom is type 2 diabetic, diagnosed 3 years ago. She doesn't do a lot of strict exercise apart from walking, gardening, and domestic duties (which all count, by the way - you can burn a LOT of cals just doing activities of daily living! I'm getting her started on TurboJam soon. She's very interested in that for an at home workout.

Concerning diet: Cleaner eating! Less use of oils (use olive oil if you must and try using PAM instead of oil or butter when having to pan fry things); switching to whole grain / whole wheat options helps; more fresh veggies! My mom loves Shakeology. She says it helps her to control her cravings and her blood sugar. I love Shakeology for different reasons, lol.

You CAN do it! MFP will have a lot of resources for you in the community message boards.
  • Try cutting carbs. White bread, rice, pasta, potatoes etc. I am type 1 and have lowered my intake of insulin and my blood pressure by low carbing. Which meds are you on?
Add me if you wish. :)

you are definitely gonna need to concentrate on cutting out processed carbs, eating every 2-3 hours to keep those blood sugars from crashing.

My wife was diagnosed with borderline diabetes a few years ago, and was afraid to eat for like a month. Then she found an ad for this book:
    http://www.diabetesmiracle.org/

We followed the plan and she not only lost weight, but she reversed the diabetes. We still follow most of their plan, and I HIGHLY recommend it.
