Need to take a new approach to get back on track :)

Hello everyone, I'm Adam! About a year and a half ago I decided I was sick and tired of being overweight so I gradually worked my way into a healthy eating and fitness regime. I challenged myself but kept my goals and expectations realistic, losing about 5 lbs a month. I successfully went from 255 lbs to 225, not bad at all but still a good ways away from my goal of 190. Regardless, I felt better, looked better and acted better.
Once I hit 225 however, I began to hit a plateau. I ate and exercised as I had been over the next few months but I wasn't making progress. I did some research on weight loss plateaus and tried mixing up my workouts but nothing seemed to get me out of the rut.
Early on this year I made the decision to go back to school. As some of you can imagine work and class kept me pretty busy and I rather lost my focus when it came to fitness. I would occasionally kick my own butt on eating habits and occasionally get myself to go for a run or workout but I had a really hard time being consistent.
I recently finished my first semester and am now enjoying a three week break. Lately I've noticed my energy and motivation has been incredibly low and I haven't been feeling as good lately. After a particularly sluggish day I couldn't ignore it any longer and checked to see that I had now put 13 lbs back on.
I was content (which I shouldn't have been) to maintain my weight but there is no way I'm letting myself move backwards. I go to school for massage therapy and I've learned a lot about the holistic connection of mind, body and spirit. In my weight loss endeavors I've really kept it to myself but I believe what I need now to make progress is to be active on these message boards and talk with others with goals like mine. No man is an island. Maybe talking and sharing with you guys will be just what I need to get back on track and achieve my goals.
In the mean time I also want to figure out a good fitness regime for my new busy lifestyle! I've considered looking into yoga...

My jump start has always been to cut out alcohol for a month or three. I've picked October to do this for a few reasons, one is my exercise is going indoors beginning that month, I'm at a plateau as well right now, and I want to turn these potential negatives into a positive by cutting out those empty calories.
Beyond that, you need to stick to counting calories. Don't let a day go by without logging all your calories. You keep track of your spending for fiscal health; keep track of your calories for physical health. And when you've "flat spotted", stick to the process, worry less about your overall goals and progress, and focus on staying on track this day, and how many calories you can burn to hit your target.0 -
Hi Adam.
My suggestion would be keep a food diary and be 100% honest. open it up as well so all can see and give advise. that way there is no hiding from the truth.
Have started a blog too so that I can see my successes and weak points. I think it will make an interesting read when feeling un-motivated and to see progress.0 -

I use the term: Stand in your truth. When you are honest with yourself, you can really identify how to make progress.0 -
Thanks you two. That is some very stellar advice.

The key for me is to make the gym and eating healthy not optional, in the manner that brushing my teeth is not optional. They get scheduled into my day and are something that must get checked off the list before I go to bed each night.0

Now that is a fantastic mindset Limey. That's the sort of tenacity I need to ingrain into myself to make what I want happen. Also, I just read your story and saw your transition pictures and I have to tell you what a great job you've done and what an inspiration you are. If you can turn your life around like that, so can I!

You can! No joke - I am the laziest person you will ever meet LOL. If I could, I'd watch tv and read books all day long for the rest of my life. So if I can change, I'm pretty sure anyone can

I'm very much the same! If I could get a 6 pack playing Playstation I'd opt for that method XD. That leaves no excuse for me then!0
