It's official ... I'm a junkie

:grumble: Yup .. a food junkie. I am officially standing up in front of the class and saying "I am a junkie" :grumble:

I don't know what is wrong with me ... or how I got this way. I spent two weeks counting EVERY calorie .... sacrificing and working out and really really sticking to it. Then I went to the casino's. And I blew it ... and I'm not talking about money.

Last night my fiance wanted to go out to celebrate my 3 year anniversary of quitting smoking. I could have picked any restaurant .. but what did I pick? I picked the buffet! I repeat ... I picked the buffet! :explode: Who does that??? 2000 calories later! blech!!

Ok so then I say ... forget yesterday - tomorrow is another day. I wake up today and we order room service ... cheerios w/ a banana and a fruit platter ... ok off to a good start! We go down and play poker ... (4 hours later) we are both out of the game and we are starving. Where do you think we went? Anyone ... anyone?? Oh you guessed it ... the BUFFET! :noway: I have a problem. I really do.

Can I sew my mouth shut ... is that an option?? I'm not eating for the next three days! I think I need electrical shock therapy ... wear something around my face that whenever I open my mouth I get a shock ... so I can't eat!!

Blech ... I feel like vomiting

Ok, let me start by saying, I've been there. We all have. Next lets talk, you can eat healthy, even at a buffet. Choice healthier foods and concentrate on your portions. So you had 2 bad days, stop beating yourself up and get back on the horse.

Every day is a new day and a chance to start again. You can't go back and change the past, but you can impact the future one day at a time. Just take it one day at a time, one meal at a time, one food choice at a time! Get back on that horse and go girl!!

Ok, here's the great thing. Accepting who we are is the first step to change. So you're a food junkie. You're in good company. Check out this link to my blog. I feel really strange saying, "Here, read my blog", but I honestly think this is some good information. Igot it from the "junkies" I work with every day.

Here's the bottom line: are you going to let this be a full blown relapse, or is it just slip? You decide. We're pulling for you!

I am with you! If I could, I would sit home and eat nothing but junk food, especially pizza :explode:

I had a weekend blowout because it was my birthday (my excuse).. I went to a winefest (drank way too much) and started off eating pizza before I went. After Winefest, we moved to a winebar and had more drinks and I had a martini and MORE food. The next day, went out for breakfast (I had eggs benny - big mistake and how many calories?!?!) and then went out for dinner that night... more drinks (a bottle of wine) and no, it doesn't end there.... I then went away for a night with my husband and we went out and had appertizers, drinks (4 glasses of wine) AND more FOOD! Nope.. still doesn't end. The next day, I figured I had fallen off the wagon so bad that I may as well throw in another day so I ordered pizza (the thickest you can find) and spanagopolis... so as not to waste the pizza, I also ate the remains of it the following day. Needless to say I felt DISGUSTED with myself, but hopped back on the wagon yesterday and ate healthy again.

Long story short.. we are ALL going to fall off the wagon at some stage or another and I think life would get pretty boring if we didn't...but let's not beat ourselves up about it. Just move on and continue on our healthy journey :drinker: <<< water

so what buffet?? i live in vegas and--this is is just so pathetic given my weight loss goal--i'm just waiting till i lose enough weight to be able to go to a buffet and "blow it" and then get back on the horse workin again. i'm particularly interested in the dessert section and intend to start there! i won't do it yet b/c it will set me too far back and then i'll just be so discouraged. i realize food rewards are "bad" but it's what i want. my smaller rewards--which i hope to get to by end of march--are non-food (2 barbra streisand cd's). so where did you go and recommend it??
anyway, it's ok to be a junkie--just so long as you take the steps to stop the addiction before it stops you!
congratulations on your no-smoking! that is super awesome!

    Hi yankee girl.

I got what you say. I encourage you to start doing self affirmations, maybe subliminal music...to help you reprogram your subconcious...such as: " I am lean and beautiful and I am responsible for my success, I can say no to food, I am relaxed and in peace etc.. look them up in internet,,maybe affirmations to loose weight.. i recommend you type them and place them in your mirror.

junkie or self sabotage.. what ever it is; is very common in most of us... keeping ourselves from winning or being at the top... it is in all of us, at different ugly degrees.

Some of us can bypass that issue well, others have to get retrained once we are aware of it and others simply dont know what it is and try to manage it the best way they can.

I think by you confronting it.. you are definitely more aware and more clear as far as what is really happening.. this is putting you closer to you achieving your goals than you might think!!

have your beau not let you go to a buffet, if you do go... eat only 1 pass, not 2 passes through the line..

I wish you well , you can do it! try to be in the motion of creating a new habit, learn to say no, say to your self I can do this.. oh also ... diet 3 days... eat ok 1 day .. then 3 days diet,, then 1 day ok. this will stimulate your metabolism and help you loose faster.

be in peace and love

The following is an article written by a friend of mine. Using P90, P90X, tears, sweat, and hard work and dedication, Jim has lost more than 135 pounds in about a year and a half. I have never met anyone so dedicated, and Jim is one of the people who inspired me to really get my butt in gear. If a 6'6" mechanical engineering college student can commit to a new lifestyle and go from 331 pounds to 198 pounds of lean, ripped muscle, I can lose these mere 35. Jim won 10,000 in August for Bringing It too.

I hope Jim's words inspire you. Enjoy!

    Push Through Adversity
    By: Jim Evanski

No on said life is easy. We all face issues in our lives that test our strengths and provide us with a means to grow either positively or negatively. The challenge is to take our failures, disappointments, let downs or anything that can negatively affect our lives and turn it around to something that is useful. We can all just give up and go cry in the corner, but why take the easy way out? And yes, that is the easy way out. To just give up and feel pity for yourself doesn’t do you any good! We learn through our failures!!

There is a great quote that I found and I feel like it explains how I feel.

“The man who is swimming against the stream knows the strength of it”

We can all just go with the current, take the easy road and just coast through life. But the question is, how can you understand yourself if you have never tested the waters? Sometimes that current is too strong, we fall and pray to god that we end up on the bank. Just as physical strength, you need to build your mental strength as well. That current may be too strong today, but tomorrow is a new day and the possibilities are endless. You may not reach your goals the first time or the tenth, but each time is a new learning experience and you know what NOT to do. By continuing to evolve and build upon the strengths that you already have, I promise you that you will find that water getting easier and easier to push through.

Putting everything you have into something and failing is the toughest blow one can take. But is it really a failure? In my own experiences during my short time on this earth, I have found that every time I “failed” I learned and grew more than I would have when easily taking the win. I have always fought back and came back stronger and fiercer than ever. Ultimately, the failures that we experience in our lives teach us how to become a better and stronger person!

I cannot say I have had the easiest life, but I can honestly say I am blessed. Everything that I have done in my life and achieved has come through hard work and the strength to endure. Nothing was ever given to me; I have had to earn it. This has never been more true than now. I have been given the opportunity to see what I am made of. This is the time to push past my limits and become a new person, to commit to becoming the best person that I can be. I am not talking about fitness here. Today I am choosing to push through the adversity that has been put in front of me, and I know that I will come out victorious. There is so much to be learned here and new life lessons will be forged. So my question to everyone here is: When adversity is staring you dead in the face, what are you going to do about it? Go cry in the corner or fight that current!?!?!?!

Buffets are tough but you have to have self control- you don't need to eat it ALL- they have healthy things at buffets just people choose the less healthy option.

as far as the advice of 3 day diet 1 day off I got a better idea how about 3 days at the gym 1 day off 3 days at the gym 1 day off

On a more serious note, I think that the advice given isn't sound because if you keep feeding your cravings you'll never learn to break the bad habits that lead you down that path in the first place. The more you say no and use your personal power, the easier it will become. Develop your mental strength and say you CAN do this. Once you learn how to fend off the cravings, it might be ok to give in and have a small treat every now and again. But you'll probably find it doesn't taste as good as you expected.

the advise is sound.... what you are saying is like quiting cold turkey a habit that she has for 20+ yrs..!!!!
every one can do this....and have success..

you must start and pursuit difficult tasks on a gradient, little by little allowing room for error and adjustment, YES the goal is perfect control... but people are not machines... you must allow room for the habit to wear off... from the body and from the mind ( past programming) is all energy...let it release and let her adjust ... the days off.. she will eat 30 % more max... is ok...

if she is cutting down in cals and breaking it in 5-6 meals per day... she will have the success as well as anyone who understands it and follows it. exercise advise is good....but realize that 80% of your sucess in getting lean comes from your eating... eating habits must be adapted and recreated for a lifetime of healthy leanness, exercise is 20% of that equation.... have you seen the guys at the gym for years and years and look the same....( they are eating the same old way) , or the guys who dont come to the gym for 1 month and they are fat again,... the same issue. ..

the advise ... I did not invent... is from the writer of feed he muscle burn the fat.. do your research and you will see.....

    P90X is hardcore.

baby steps people.. we are talking not getting fat after college here.. there are people that have been obese since childhood put yourself in their shoes.. think before you discard what is before your very eyes..

    be in peace and love.

Maybe, YG it boils down to simple addiction therapy. I am a therapist working with substance abuse. We have a lot of little memory tricks to help people remember how to change very complex and ingrained behaviors. Here is one that may apply in your situation: "Avoid old playmates, playgrounds and playthings." In short, maybe for a while, you gotta avoid the casinos. It may be hard, but it seems like that is the problem here. I am betting you usually hit the buffet when at the casino, right? Another way to look at it, you will be able to go back to what you were doing well before when you leave the casino. :drinker: Do quit beating yourself up, and don't feed your cravings. Again, addiction therapy: when we feed our cravings, they do not weaken, they grow stronger. But, cravings are kind of like a wave, they swell, peak and then taper off. So, next time, ride the wave! It will subside, especially if you have several positive things planned to occupy your time (and maybe your mouth) when the next craving comes.

Finally, regarding advise, "if it doesn't apply, let it fly!" Look into yourself and think about this problem, you know what you need to do to kick it. We are all here for you! :drinker: :flowerforyou:

The method behind the 3 and 1 is that if you eat health and stay on track for three days then on the fourth day you are allowed to eat what you want but in moderation. It keeps the body guessing what are you going to do next.

The P90X program was built on this concept - change up your work to keep your body guessing.

Some P90X info that might help you understand muscle confusion and the 3 to 1 concept
