Blender Free Protein Shakes?

In a couple days, I am leaving my apartment and blender behind for dorm life again. I'd bring one with me, but I don't think my roommate or neighbors through paper-thin walls would appreciate the sound at 7:00AM.

I can live with mixing my protein powder with water or milk, but if someone has a more delicious idea, I am open to it.

(I can't afford to buy pre-made shakes, I'm a poor college student!)

  • I can't stand my shakes "shaken"...have you thought about maybe a magic bullet? Would be quieter than a big blender.

I use GNC wheybolic extreme in chocolate. I mix with milk in the "blender bottle" you can buy the bottle at GNC also. It is just a cup with a spiral metal thing that mixes everything by just shaking it. The blender bottle works so well!!!
  • I dont know if this is anything that would work for you, but I sometimes use a boston shaker for iced coffee and add protein powder to it sometimes. The ingredients are cold and the powder mixes well with ice in the shaker, not sure how it would do without ice. I am thinking you could put milk, protein powder, and maybe yogurt or something in it. Just an idea not sure if it would work.

I have also just added it to yogurt and it was alright.

    Good luck.

What if you mix it in oatmeal?

This sounds like a great idea. I could use applesauce or something instead of the fresh fruit I usually mix in with it.

    I actually can't stand oatmeal :(

I mixed my chocolate protein powder with Fage greek yoghurt the other day. It was very tasty but I wouldn't fancy it at 7am, bit early for dessert! I guess you could try it with a fruity flavour instead though

I seconded the Blender Bottle recommendation. It has a metal ball inside that is slightly larger than a ping pong ball, and is made of the same material as a whisk.

Typically what I do is put a few ounces of fluid (water, coffee, half & half, etc) in it with 2 scoops of protein powder on top. I mix in any Sugar Free Syrups (available at Starbucks and other places), sweeteners, etc so the bottle is about half full. I shake it until it's fully blended (about a minute), and then add additional fluid and/or ice to fill the bottle.

During the week day. I shake mine in a shaker cup with flax seed oil, unsweetened coconut or almond milk and water. It tasted great!
If I want a little boost of energy, I do the same thing with my Chocolate Shakeology powder and fage yougurt. I might even add sliced almonds. It's SO GOOD!
My husband sprinkles his powder on fresh fruit in the morning. He doesn't believe in blending his food while he still has teeth in his head! LOL!

Yea, I barely have the money to pay for books and bills. I'm not paying hundreds of dollars for a shake when I can go to Target and get protein powder for $8/lb.

I did look into the blender bottle, I'm going to buy just the blender ball and put it in my own bottle. Thanks for the suggestions guys!
