New to dieting

Hi. This is my first time to try to diet. I really did not care about my weight (or what other people thought of me) until my doctor and I had a heart to heart. This is a new experience for me.....any advice?

Well, the first piece of advice I can give is that it's not a diet, it's a lifestyle change! This site has lot of good information. Plug your stats into your profile and get your calorie targets. Most generally speaking take in less than you put out and create a calorie deficit. It doesn't have to be about losing weight. Eating better and getting in activity most days of the week is just creating the healthier lifestyle that'll keep ya going. Best of luck!!

The second piece of advice is that you have to be honest to yourself. Do you care enough to make a change? If yes, you will succeed. If no, come back when you're ready.

    This^

There will be days when you screw up - we all do that. Just continue on. Measure & log your regular foods. Some of your choices will be good ones, others not so much. This is such a great learning tool.

I took all your advice and now I am at 165 from a high of 200. I started this journey about 3 years ago and I am still going strong. Thanks!
