Just wondering....does anyone else have a problem with digital scales? I mean, I step on and get a weight, step off, then
step on again, and it's different. Are they that touchy? I guess if it went down each time, I wouldn't be so bothered.
( And, no, lI'm not constantly weighting myself ) Thanks

Mine do that too! I wondered if it's because I use them on a carpet. I did used to keep going until I got the same weight twice, but now I step on twice and if they're different I record the highest just to be safe.

do you happen to have the scales sitting on carpet? that can make a big difference to mechanical and digital scales.

You wont get an accurate reading on carpet, you need to put the scales on a hard surface.

I usually get the same reading on mine. When the reading are different I make sure that the scale is not sitting on any cracks in the tile. Also moving it to different areas makes the reading change. And yes, even where you stand and ow you stand can make a difference. Putting more weight on one side or the other can make a difference.

Not on carpet, on the bathroom floor - vinyl.
  • Mine dont, yours might be on their way out.. as my sisters do this too. It also could be to do with condensation in the bathroom.

Cheap digi scales will do that for me. I finally went with a high quality Omron scale, gives me the exact same reading 3 times in a row.

Also, make sure batteries are good.
  • I have the same experience as hewhoiscd. Twice bought a digital scale from Tefal and twice it happened that after a few years it became unreliable. Weighing yourself within seconds could make a difference of 2 or 3 kilos and always too low.
After buying an Omron scale at first I was a little disappointed that I appeared to weigh 4 k more; but after that there are no more strange differences.

If your floor isnt perfectly flat You are going to get false readings.
    They are really sensitive.
See if your scale wobbles if it does find a place in your home where that doesnt happen.
My scale shows the same number in repeated weight ins.

I bought a digital scale when I started MFP. I hate it! It doesn't matter when I weigh (before eating, after, before going to the bathroom, after, with clothes, without) it is always the exact same weight. I wish I hadn't thrown away the receipt because I'd like to return it and get my money back. I'm going to get a mechanical scale.
