Whisky neat/rocks
Rum neat or diet “Cuba libre”

Gin light tonic

Fresh lime substituted for sweetened lime juice
herbs or spice (chili rim, deseeded jalapeño/Serrano, etc; bitters) in lieu of sugar for flavor

I'm drinking a small 5 oz white zin right now! I had calories left for dinner so I'm having it. It depends on your definition of low calorie, this is 108 calories (according to many database entries, apparently alcohol doesn't have to have nutrition facts on it), that is less than a can of sugared soda, or a cup of milk (is skim 100 or 110? it's close, I drink whole at 150 cal, so it's lower for me). It's fairly low calorie.

I am all about the hard seltzer. My husband manages a liquor store, so I have tried them all (nationally available or regionally available in the midwest). My favorite is Press. They pair fruit flavors with herbs and don’t taste like artificial sweeteners. My next favorite is Truly Lemonade. Great if you want to get away from sugary hard lemonades. I will mix the plain lemonade flavor with other seltzers that fall short. My third favorite is new on the market, it’s called Vizzy. It’s very fruit forward. Each of these brands fall in the 100-110 calories ranger, I believe.

Of course, diet soda and liquor is a classic. If you go that route, though, be careful. It can catch up quick. Especially if you “eyeball” your pours.
