I thought I'd share a concept I use at work called Reality Therapy. It's simple and helpful, consisting of three very basic questions to ask yourself(or someone else)
1. What is it I want?
2. What am I doing to get it?
3. Is it working?
I use this as a form of behavior rehabilitation or as a de-escalation tactic, but we can totally apply this to our health goals!
Example: Mary wants to fit into her new size 6 jeans by summer, but wants to skip the gym today and grab a cheeseburger for lunch.
Mary asks herself:
"What is it I want?....to fit into those jeans."
"What am I doing to get that(reach that goal)?....um, skipping my workout and eating a burger."
"Is it working?(is this going to help me get to my goal)?"...probably not!"
Mary then makes a better choice that day, eating a healthy lunch and gets her *kitten* to the gym!
Go Mary!!!
Ok, it's not always that simple, but worth a try!

this is great....the truth is it is always that simple, we just allow life and the hectic details of every day to cloud it. I'm writing that on a post it and sticking it on my mirror, on the fridge, and on my dashboard, so I'll think about it the next time I'm considering skipping the gym and getting a cheeseburger  :drinker:
thanks for the reminder!0 -
This is perfect for me for this afternoon. I am approaching the time of day where I make crazy food choices and then tonight I tell myself I will do better tomorrow! If I choose healthy foods for a few days in a row, then my cravings stop and I start to lose weight. I have decided to stick close to this website during the hours where I find my choice making to be the most difficult. I, too, have written these questions down and will carry them with me!0

Actually, sometimes it really is that simple! It's not always that EASY, but simple, yes! I like it! :drinker:0 -
Thank you for this!! I was having kind of a bad day and when I went shopping I had to force myself not to buy junk food. It was seriously a mental struggle and in the end, I left empty-handed. I think that usually, it is this simple...just telling yourself NO!! and making the wise choice.0
