A question

So last night my husband told be I should include my ticker when I post an answer to a question someone has asked. He said that he is more likely to take advice from someone who has lost weight rather than someone who doesn't show their loss or someone who hasn't lost anything. After I thought about it, I do the same thing and didn't realize it.

So now the question: Are you more likely to take advice from someone who has lost weight and posts it or does it not matter to you? Be honest!

As I said I do it! We are all here to loose or maintain a healthy weight, so why wouldn't you take the advice of someone who has been successful over someone you can't see how they are doing or someone who as lost 0lbs.

    Ive gotten so used to kind of overlooking signatures. Some of them are SO massive. But I dont come looking for advice on the message boards very often. Now, when I do notice someones huge weight loss - Im super impressed and typically send off a friend request. Those are the people I want on my team!
    But yeah.... include it! Be proud of the work youve done!

    I probably do that without realizing I'm doing it! I do know that when I started on MFP a couple of months ago, I was worried that people would think I was just starting out, so I made sure to put my real start weight in my signature! Maybe for the reason you're suggesting...? Hmmm.

    I try to take advice from anyone willing to offer it to me. And a lot of people who have lost a lot of weight have done it in ways that don't make sense for me, so you never really know whose advice will be right for you.

    I honestly rarely ever look at siggies unless they're attention grabbing. It makes no difference to me what people have lost because someone of a larger size looses a lot of weight really quickly while someone more my size really doesn't due to the percentage of your body you're actually loosing. Plus it doesn't tell you a time cale, just because someone has lost 40lb doesn't mean they're doing brilliantly if it's taken them three years, as opposed to someone who's conistently lost 1 or more a week. So I really don't pay attention, I go with the most sensible answer.

    this is true. no matter if a person has lost 4lbs or 40lbs what helped them do so may not work for you.

    also, some people lose weight before they start here or some may know a lot about nutrition and being in shape / eating healthy but are at the beginning of losing the weight after for example, having a baby.

    It doesn't matter to me. While I have a lot of respect and a little envy for those folks, I prefer to take advice from someone who has a background in what they are advising me on (i.e. nutritionist, personal trainer, etc).

    I'm impressed by the ticker too !!! I don't have a computer, all I have is a iPhone and can't figure out how to get mine on there! Lol.
  • I never thought about how long it could have taken someone to loose the weight. I respect everyone here, everyone is working to have or keep a healthy lifestyle. Also any weight loss is a step in the right direction and I am not trying to say that if you have only lost 2lbs that I will listen to someone who has lost 20lbs over you. I read every post that is sent to me from a question I have asked. I appreciate everyone who is kind enough to take the time and " talk" to me. From those answers I decide what is best for me.

    With this being said, most of us are here because we want to loose weight and I do think seeing tickers at the bottom helps to show that this site works. I have lost 40lbs in 6 months, with two months of being laid up because of knee surgery and a 5lb gain during that time. I am proud of myself for the hard work I have done to be were I am, this is the lowest weight I have been at in at least 11 years.

    I look for tickers and how long they have been on this site, i will also take a look at their pic to see if they have progress.

    I cant wait until 30 days so I can take my 30 day P90X pictures!! I will figure out how to add my ticker then too :)
