I bought some 8 pound weights this weekend.

Pretty excited to get my first work out in with them. I'm doing P90X, kinda.. not really following any plan, just doing whatever DVD it feels like I haven't done in a while. But I think I'm going to try to really stick to the schedule and add in some cardio this month. I'm so close to getting under 200 pounds, and I need to pull it together.

I realize this thread ended up being very little about my eight pound weights. But you know, just sharing.

If you can, get some 5 pound weights as well. For some of the exercises, even 8 may be a little heavy with all the repetitions.

Good luck to you. Just started week 5 last night.
If you find there are some exercises you are unable to do with the weights, go get some bands. There are still plenty of times I use the bands over free weights.

That's great! I'm using my little 3 pounders right now. I'll be excited when I can graduate to 5 pounds :) I just started using them again (after many years).

Oh, I have 5, 3, and 2 pound weights, plus bands. I've just found that some of the moves are getting too easy with 5lbs., so it was time to upgrade! There are still a few exercises I need the little baby 3pounds for. :D

Keep at it! I've been doing regular strength training for about three months now. Started out almost never using the 5pounder, but now it's my go-to!

I'm excited for you. I use P90X also. I started out with 5 lbs and gradually went up. I'm up to 10 lbs now and hope to go up some more.

Good for you! I started with my very old 5lb weights - promptly went out and got 2 & 3lbs as well. Since then I've bought 8 and 10lbs (although haven't used the 10s in awhile, getting back into things the past couple of weeks!). But like you, there are some moves that I still use the 3lbs weighs for, and with others I can use the 8's. Amazes me how different the strengths of the various muscles in my arms are!

Good for you! Ladies should not be afraid of moving heavier weights in P90X... Some moves are better for most with 15 - 20 pounders IMO...

    Good luck!

I want to be very strong. That's my goal. Not ripped or body-builder-y, but more like a dumpster fire: Looks innocent enough from the outside, but there's a fu@king fire in there!

I would also recommend checking out ChaLean Extreme program...for this exact purpose of becoming very strong :)

I've heard good things about ChaLean ... also interested in trying TurboFire .. I'm not sure what I'll try next, but there's another program in my future for sure. Gotta keep it interesting!
