Does anyone have a recipe for a dip, perhaps like a french onion or something equally as yummy that I could dip my veggies in? I am really struggling with food cravings! Preferably something creamy rather than the usual salsa :-/

You can get some dip mixes at the grocery store or other outlet (my mother sells Epicure Selections mixes, so I get some of those)... mix that with 0% fat greek yogurt instead of mayo or sour cream, and voila! A low-cal, healthy, protein-full dip!0

I saw this on Dr Oz the other day he used greek yogurt and mixed his favorite flavor mix in the greek yogurt and the audience member loved it.0

HOMMUS! Tastes delicious and is made from chick peas, it's good for you too!0

I take plain greek yogurt... FAGE 0% fat free... about six to eight ounces.
Then I add 1 to 2 teaspoons of Hidden Valley Ranch powder (to make those deliciously fatty dips with sour cream etc) and whip it all up.
It' just as good as when you make it with the bad stuff, but has much fewer calories!
I suppose you could add some onion soup mix to it and make yourself a french onion dip... hmm will have to try it.
Anyway, that is what I do.0 -
Hummus
1 tin of chickpeas
2 tbsp tahini
1 lemon, juiced
2-3 cloves of garlic, minced
In a food processor, combine chickpeas, tahini, lemon juice and garlic. Add small amounts of water until desired consistency reached.0 -
I use low fat cottage cheese and ranch dressing dry mix to make a ranch dip!! It's good!!0

I made this today and it's AWESOME! It's from the "Peas and Thank You" cookbook and called Almond Ginger Dressing. My kids loved it too and were actually eating their vegetables. Throw everything in the blender, puree until smooth:
1/2 cup almond butter
1/2 cup whole almonds (raw preferred)
1 1/2 T soy sauce
2 Tbs pure maple syrup
2 Tbs fresh lime juice
1 tsp minced garlic
1 Tbs minced fresh ginger
1/2 cup water
Hope you like it. We sure do. In fact, it's my new favorite cookbook.

Yum, great ideas thanks everyone! I wish so bad that they had ranch dressing powder here in Australia! I used to live in the US and ranch is one of the things I miss most (probably what got me into this situation in the first place! ha!)0

Hummus is a really tasty and healthy dip. It has some protein and healthy fats. It goes great with pretty much any raw veggies. Another good choice would be low-fat ranch dressing.0

I second the greek yogurt and veggie dip mix, it's really good. hummus - i love roasted garlic from sabra and i end up adding more garlic.0

Fat free greek yogurt & green pesto dip is DELICIOUS. You only have to mix in about 1 tsp green pesto into the yogurt and you have one sexy dip right there!!
Also- Tzatziki (Greek cucumber & mint dip) Mix fat free greek yoghurt with some chopped fresh mint or dill (or both) and some diced/ shaved fresh cucumber. Adding garlic is optional but well worth it!0 -
Aw shoot, I can't eat plain yogourt. I just don't like it.0

You could also use low fat sour creme, or low fat creme fraiche as a yoghurt substitiute.0 -
I borrowed this from one of my support groups..sounds really good.
Spicy Fage Dressing
1 tbs taco seasoning
1 cup fage greek yogurt
1 cup Salsa
2 tbs hot water
mix hot water and taco seasoning let sit for few mins
mix yogurt and salsa and then add taco seasoning
mix well....this taste delicious on all sorts of things...meats dip for veggies and I love it on my taco salad!!
If you dont know fage its the top of the line ( on the market) greek yogurt..its nutritional value is fantastic...its very versatile and can take on the flavor of anything u add to it...use it instead of milk in your shakes with water and you boost the protein content substantially....here are the nutritional facts.

I make my own garlic and onion dip for veggies or Veggie Straws, depending on my mood. I don't have exact measurements for the add-ins because I have a tendency to just eyeball ingredients and then fix it to my taste.
4 ounces Plain Fage 0% Greek Yogurt
Approx 1/2 tablespoon granulated onion (onion powder would work, too)
Approx 1/4 tablespoon granulated garlic
pinch of Himalayan rock salt (any other salt will do, but it's what we use in my house)
It's very low sodium compared to the packaged dip mixes, and a lot cheaper, too!0 -
I know that you mentioned that you would like something besides salsa, but I have to mention this anyway...:) I love salsa mixed with FF cream cheese, it is far from attractive, but oh so good, great with veg.s and also on a baked potato. Yum0

I'm also a fan of creamy dips made with Greek yogurt (usually the Fage 2% for me). I tried a great one this weekend. Lays has out some new "natural" dip mixes. At least it doesn't have MSG or artificial flavors. The onion was very tasty.
If you can't get the dried dip mixes, you could always make your own with spices and seasonings. Good flavors to add would be garlic, onion, paprika, lemon juice, and a bit of salt. Or you could do a savory dip with dill and a bit of garlic.
And if you want a sweet dip for fruits, a cup of Greek yogurt mixed with half a Tablespoon of honey, 1/4 teaspoon of either cinnamon or ginger, and just a few drops (maybe 1/8 tsp) of an extract like vanilla, almond, or lemon makes a very tasty dip. This also makes a lovely dressing for a fruit salad.0 -

I love you! Why didn't I ever think of that!0 -
skip all the extra sodium in the dip mix and make your own.. I use a fat free sour cream or greek yogurt.. Add some chopped green onions and minced garlic... Let it sit for an hour or so. This is also good on baked potatoes... YUMM!!0

Along the yogurt (especially Greek variety) lines, today I had my veggies with a dip I made with about 1/3-1/2 cup of plain Greek yogurt, a teaspoon of honey, and a few shakes of curry powder. It was delicious with apples and carrots.0
