So, long-story short I got this hoodie back in a breakup last year. With fall approaching and money tight (due to a cross-country move), I find myself in need of cute, warm fall clothes. Also, I like projects! ♥ I hate the big stupid Volcom logo but can live with it if I must. However, this hoodie is ENORMOUS:

How can I alter this to be better? I like the length and hood size but the body and arms are ridiculously huge. Any creative ideas?

I googled and checked threadbanger and etsy but all I have come up with is to cut it into a V-neck or fabric-glue monster teeth + eyes onto it. Seeing as neither of those particularly appeal, I come to you, ye olde fitnesse palliness. HALP!?!

I can sew by hand. I seriously don't mind hand-stitching. It relaxes me and I'm good enough at it. I don't have a sewing machine, any zippers or glue or anything cool extra. Just needles and thread and the fabric in that hoodie and in this image:

It's a huge sheet of fabric (like 5'x8'). Thin champagne synthetic with black velvet wallpaper designs on top.

Any help is GREATLY appreciated. ALL ideas welcome! However outlandish! I like cool/weird looking stuff. THX!!!

  • Hmm, maybe you could cut it straight down the middle, cut off extra to reduce the size and cut out the Volcorn logo, sew two panels of your scroll fabric on either side of the cut and then attach a zipper, making this a zipped hoodie instead of a pull over. Then you could cut holes (like in the sleeves) and sew underneath more of the scroll fabric....thats what I would do. Hope that makes sense or helps. Good luck!

Measure where you'd like the shoulder to hit...and how snug you'd like it to fit....have someone help you pin...Measure TWICE..cut ONCE!! Then just cynch up the sides. To remove the seam just use a seam tearer...carefully though. The sleeves will be tricky....so while you have the bodice of the hoodie...sew the sleeve to it...so that when you stitch up the bodice it's the final two stitches.....I hope that didn't sound all too complicated....have fun and happy crafting!

You'll probably get a million different ideas before I can organize my thoughts, but I'm gonna experiment with one of my old hoodies and get back to you :)

use a seam ripper to remove the sleeves, the the seams down the side of the bodice. invert sleeves and sew a new seam half inch inside old seam and the cut the fabric away between the two seams. Pin your sides back together and sew...pin the arms back in and sew them together....

You could sew a new pocket on the front of the new material....however being sweatshirt material vs. different material...the two won't jive well togther...once washed could pucker...perhaps a fun new clutch or string bag for fabric>

i would maybe see if you can make it into a zip up, and that will get rid of some of the logo, and either put a panel of the fabric along the zipper and ono the back, or keep the front and back black (with some of the logo visible) and using the extra fabric as side panels. to fit it better I would put it on inside out and pin how you want it to fit.. if you do side panels I'd open the side seams from wrist to waist and then cut the material out and add in the other fabric you have. I think it would look kinda cool have the fabric under you arms and then down the side! Good luck though! post a picture when you're done :)

Your post realy challanged me. I thought and thought and then did an online search. http://www.ehow.com/how_10005535_tailor-hoodie.html

Try that link. I can't imagine doing it without a sewing machine. No friends with a sewing machine?

I'd put a zipper down the front cutting away some of the Volcom logo instead of taking the fabric off the sides of the front. I would cut that beautiful fabric and, using the buttonhole stitch, fit the fabric into whatever part of the remaining Volcom logo that remained making it artsy and unique.

Good luck with this ... I love oversized hoodies and hoodie jackets, so actually, I'd leave it alone and wear it as is. :o)

Where did you get the awesome start, 25%, 50%, etc. ticker that is under your MFP ticker?

Made it in Photoshop and just update it accordingly. But you could do the exact same thing in ANY imaging/photo editing program. Even MS paint. :)
