I've been on my fitness pal for a long time, but I'm new using the community boards.

I'm a mother of twins, a math teacher, and wife to the best partner I could have asked for. I also used to work as a personal trainer.

A bit about my journey in weight:

I grew up in a family that was exceedingly heavy. I, however, always stayed on the heavier side of average, but at least it was near average.

I decided to lose weight in college and, went through a very unhealthy relationship with food for a long time. This is something that came back up when my twins were born. But I lost the extra weight, despite it being quite destructive.

I have, since, learned a lot about health and nutrition, and promised myself to lose weight in a healthy manner, because I again find myself on the heavy side of average.

The problem: recently I've been consuming between 1000 and 1200 calories a day on a vegan keto style diet, focusing on healthy fats and lots of vegetables (without exceeding 17 carbs a day). I've also been exercising 30-45 minutes a day.

In 4 weeks, my weight hasn't budged (literally, I've lost nothing), so I decided to start chatting in this community for some extra support, while I try to figure out this whole thing in a way that works for me.

How much are you trying to lose? You should just try eating up to your BMR for now and see how that works. Eating too little automatically drops your RMR to a crawl and you burn 100% of stored fat during rest and sleep. If your RMR is really slow, that could be why you're stalled. The body is really sensitive to caloric reduction that may not be providing enough nutrition to run your body's hormones efficiently.

I've been trying to lose about 20 lbs.

I do understand not causing your metabolism to crawl by under eating. That said, even eating quite healthy (predominantly whole foods, and vegetarian) to an appropriate Caloric level (1600-1800), and lightly exercising, I actually gained about 25 lbs over 2 years. Most of this was fat.

I'm fairly certain something isn't set right in my system. I likely need to talk to a doctor more than a health community online.

I have been careful about my nutrition. I pay attention to the Micro and macro nutrients carefully. The only thing I've ever skimped much on was healthy fats, which is what I am currently attempting to correct eating more on a keto side of vegan. I figured the variation to this may be helpful to my body in multiple ways.
